Abnormal need for frequent MB12 injections

Hi,

I had a clinically advanced B12 deficiency over ten years ago and started taking injections. My deficiency symptoms healed, but I haven’t been able to get off the daily high dose injections ever since. If I don’t inject about 4x5 mg MB12 daily, I basically lose my mind and regress neurologically at a rapid rate. I develop advanced deficiency symptoms within days; however, they go away again as soon as I resume my injections.

• I’ve tried all other delivery methods. Everything, even oils, patches, vape, you name it. Only injections work.

• I’ve adjusted every methylation variable I can think off, following Freddd’s protocol to a tee (methylfolate, B vitamins, etc.)

• I’ve tried lithium and B12 oil Greg’s B2 protocol.

• I do worse with TMG and better with low dose DMG. I get overstimulated by SamE and need high amounts of methylfolate. I do not tolerate high dose B3.

Is there anyone out there who has been in the same situation and been able to reduce their need for MB12 injections?

Best regards,

Oskar, Sweden

What about your diet? Do you have food sensitivities? Gluten, Oxalate, sulfites, salicylates? Are you taking copper?

@nilsoskaraxel - I need to take B12 every other day, so not as much as you. I take about 5,000 mcg. every other day. I use a liquid methylcobalamin which I take sublingually, squirt it under my tongue and let it absorb that way. Have you every tried a liquid?

Many years ago my doctor had me do B12 injections 3 or 4 times a week, I can't remember exactly - only that was not enough for me. I still had a deficiency and it was only after I started doing high dose liquid methylcobalamin sublingually every day that I caught up. I'm able to get by with every other day now, but I do need it every other day.

I have to take potassium daily or I get hypokalemia symptoms within a day or 2.

I think there is something off with ME/CFS patients' ability to absorb and metabolize various nutrients.

I have a sister who developed a B12 deficiency after being vegetarian for many years. She took high dose B12 for about a week and all her symptoms disappeared. Now I think she just takes it sporadically - I think normal healthy people are able to remedy deficiencies, unlike those with ME/CFS.

I have experimented extensively with diet and follow an autoimmune paleo diet at the moment. I take supplements to manage oxalates and avoid gluten and sulfites. I have not played around with salicylates. Is it related to my B12 issues in any way? I am avoiding copper as I have high mercury which often goes along with elevated copper. I do worse with copper supplements.

Hi,

Thanks for your input. As I mentioned, I have tried every possible delivery method on the planet, including liquid B12, spray, everything. The mystery is why I can’t segway into the ”sporadic” phase but have to keep on with this intense frequency and dosage.

I've never done injections but im also in the weird methyl-b12 need boat. I need 2000 mcg daily in the morning or my body shuts down on me. No more or less, just that dose. Haven't been able to get to the bottom of it and I have tried so much with my diet, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Have a feeling in stuck there for life.

Is it possible it's because of the elevated levels of mercury in your body? Have you considered doing saunas and other detoxification therapies to try to reduce those levels? I think it could make a difference, as B12 can get quickly depleted from toxic exposures, and mercury is extraordinarily toxic.

I think you are right. I did the Cutler protocol for several years with little progress. Then I tested high for mycotoxins and have focused on detoxing the latter, since my doctor says it can get in the way of mercury detox. However, most people even in the mercury toxic community don’t need this much B12.

Have you brought this up with your doctor, and asked him why you should need so much B12?

Freddd needed lots of B12 because of his subacute combined degeneration (SCD).

Yes. My family doctor have no clue. My mold detox doctor says it’s because mold messes with methylation.
I had SACD symptoms but they resolved after intense B12 therapy. As soon as I stop injecting, they return, though.

You would think it's more about the frequency than an actual B12 deficiency in your case. I assume you tried the difference methods with the same frequency?
Also how do you inject: intramuscular or subcutaneous? On or the other could take different times to absorb. Can't remember. I prefer a daily sublingual and merhylfolate. If I don't take it daily I get horrible headaches. Injections give me a lot of pain (possibly the alcohol) and have the same effect, but for me it's also more about frequency than dose.

I’ve tried all other methods with high frequency, yes.

I do SC injections. It’s a slower release. However, four low dose injections work much better than one or two high dose ones.

Four injections a day is crazy, but I completely understand. What type you inject? You think it's b12 deficiency, methylation or the potential anti-inflammatory properties?
From all the different reports that I've it seems that this is very different from person to person.

Hi,

I inject methylcobalamin. I don’t know, but I assume it’s methylation, because I need tons of methylfolate too. Plus mercury and mold. Every time I inject my mind stops racing for a while.
