A paradigm linking herpesvirus immediate-early gene expression apoptosis and ME/CFS

Abstract: There is no accepted science to relate herpesviruses (EpsteinBarr virus [EBV],human cytomegalovirus [HCMV], and human herpesvirus 6 [HHV6]) as causes of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). ME/CFS patients have elevated serum immunoglobulin (Ig)G serum antibody titers to EBV, HCMV, and HHV6, but there is no herpesvirus DNA-emia, herpesvirus antigenemia, or uniformly elevated IgM serum antibody titers to the complete virions. We propose that herpesvirus EBV, HCMV, and HHV6 immediate-early gene expression in ME/CFS patients leads to host cell dysregulation and host cell apoptosis without lytic herpesvirus replication. Specific antiviral nucleosides, which alleviate ME/CFS, namely valacyclovir for EBV ME/CFS and valganciclovir for HCMV/ HHV6 ME/CFS, inhibit herpesvirus DNA polymerases and/or thymidine kinase functions, thus inhibiting lytic virus replication. New host cell recruitment thus ceases. In the absence of new herpesvirus, nonpermissive herpesvirus replication stops, and ME/CFS recovery ensues.

In my own studies and opinions i know have on it, so dont take as gospel is that herpes infection can start the ball rolling on immune dysfunction or they can reactivate when you get severally rundown for some other reason or maybe xmrv. Now my understanding is that in some of us they can avoid our immune system by turning down our ability to make interferon. Now interferon has direct antiviral effects and also helps our nk cells to function normally so without it can cause nk dysfunction which is a common immune defiency found in cfs. ampligen is the most famous cfs drug and it works on interferon, there is also a class of drugs/supps called interferon inducers, the most famous being immunovir and the other is one i have been using for thye last 6 months with good results, cycloferon. So these substances increase our interferon production and over ride the inhibitory effects of herpes viruses and turn on interferon production and improve nk function. I think a combo of one of these substances with my favourite av, famvir is the way to go in treating this. This can be a big part of the picture but i dont think the whole picture but maybe enough for your system to correct other dysfunctions and help recovery, if not u should feel better and possibly look at other co-infections and hormone defiencies.
I wonder if what i have just said is whats causing the host cell dysregulation, mmmm.
