VIP - Vasoactive intestinal Peptide

Anyone with experience?
I am mostly interested in it as my IL-1b, TNF-A and NO are very elevated. As well as my Leaky Gut and gastrointestinal problems.
And strong TH1 dominance.

_VIP has neuroprotective effect on inflammatory conditions by inhibiting the production of microglia-derived proinflammatory factors (TNF-alpha, IL-1b, nitric oxide). VIP promotes a secondary repair with axonal regrowth through the VPAC2 receptor and BDNF production.

_VIP can help support healthy hormone levels, works to limit inflammation, and regulates the immune system. Also it is often dosed nasally in patients with mold toxicity and other biotoxin illnesses.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6743256/
VIP, which is also produced by type 2 lymphocytes (Th2), could also be classified as a Th2 cytokine 31, 92. The potent anti-inflammatory effects of VIP may result from its promotion of Th cell differentiation toward a “Th2” phenotype 11. Moreover, VIP also increases regulatory T cell production while inhibiting macrophage pro-inflammatory actions, all contributing to its anti-inflammatory effects.

I have tried Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) via intranasal sprays. I did it for the anti-inflammatory effects and after I had been exposed to mold. Unfortunately, I did not notice anything from it. I did it for only 2 months however. It was fairly expensive, if I remember correctly, $400-500 per month. Perhaps it's less expensive now that peptides in general are more popular. Some people respond very well to it and make significant progress on it. But I can't tell why it didn't work for me.

Edit: Maybe it cost more like $250. I can't remember.

Where did you buy it? I do great on peptides and want to try this one.
I've posted about sources for VIP before, listing several sources (they were all compounding pharmacies). So try the search. Let me know if you don't have any luck. (The search function is horrid.) But I'm pretty sure I got mine from Hopkinton Drug: https://www.rxandhealth.com

This place also sells it: https://www.woodlandhillspharmacy.com/compounds/biotoxin/vip-nasal-spray/

More sources listed here: http://biotoxinjourney.com/vip/#Testing_and_Ordering_VIP

I do not know of any sources that do not require prescription. I've only heard it sold through compounding pharmacies with a doctor's prescription. But perhaps, now that peptides are popular, reesearch peptide sites mayy offer it.

Interestingly - VIP has a half life of only 2-3 minutes and there is no PEGylated version yet.
So studies mostly did IVs over long period of time.

I had 25mg custom synthesized for me. Will probably do Nasal 10x a day or more and see how I go from there.
50mcg dosages per spray.

Hi @mitoMAN Would you mind sharing how you did on the VIP? I'm working toward trying it, currently wading through Shoemaker's testing and steps.
I was told a while ago the FDA banned compounding VIP - I just looked but cannot confirm this. A company that has tested it successfully in COVID cases has been granted orphan drug status for their synthetic VIP.

@Learner1 VIP is on a 2019 FDA list for removal from compounding and it appears on a Nov 2021 FDA document as being under evaluation. Sadly, it looks like glutathione, lipoic acid, NAD, methylcobalamin, melatonin, pregnenolone, artemisinin, and many other very useful substances are also on their "under evaluation" category. VIP is currently still available from compounding pharmacies.

From what I gather, there is no official compounding substances list yet, but the FDA is looking to create one and has been evaluating what to include since at least 2016 (fortunately, they move slower than a turtle's pace).

Everyone: If anyone has tried VIP, I would be interested to hear your experience.

Thank you for clarifying. I was aware of the 2019 removal list.

I'm glad at least someone else is concerned about the FDA banning substances ME/CFS patients can benefit from. Why is no one else concerned?

Are you on the peptides discord? There is a channel for VIP there. It isn't very active but there is a little bit of discussion.

I misinterpreted the significance of being on the "under evaluation" list. It actually looks like it is a good thing. VIP, glutathione, lipoic acid etc are all under the "503A Category 1" designation, which is the best category to be in. This document states which substances fall in which category: https://www.fda.gov/media/94155/download

This document defines the categories: https://www.fda.gov/media/94398/download
