There will be much discussion in the news about these and other kinds of spending cuts being proposed by the Trump administration. There will always be the argument that US national debt is too high and out of control, which somehow justifies the (often illegal) measures they're taking to bring it all back under control and somehow "save our nation".

Here's something to keep in mind as you consider some of their arguments: -- Republican sponsored tax cuts since 1981 (Reagan, Bush, and Trump tax cuts) that primarily benefitted the wealthy and major corporations are responsible for about $20 trillion of the current $36 trillion national US debt. That's over half of all U.S. national debt. Something to think about.

Also, US corporate taxes in the 1950's made up close to 60% of the national budget. Today, those corporate taxes provide less than 10%. Just a bit of information for anybody interested in how the middle class in this country has gotten the short end of the stick for the past half century.

I recall reading a few years ago about a foreign dignitary inquiring of his colleagues when visiting the U.S. about its policies. He was apparently bewildered by what he perceived. He said that the U.S. had long been the economic envy of the world, with a large and thriving middle class. And he wondered, "Why is the U.S. enacting policies that are slowly destroying this middle class?" He just didn't get it. I don't either.

Attorneys general representing 22 states sued the Trump administration on Monday, asking a federal judge to temporarily block a major policy change by the National Institutes of Health that would substantially limit payments for research overhead to universities, medical centers, and other grant recipients.

In the attorneys general lawsuit, the plaintiffs argued that NIH’s abrupt decision to set a 15% cap on payments for indirect costs — administrative and facility costs linked to research — would cause major harm to institution budgets, jeopardizing basic operations and medical research.

The lawsuit asked the court to declare the policy illegal and issue a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction preventing federal agencies from implementing the policy in the 22 states.

this is a full disgrace whats going on here, a non elected Judge tells the executive that the boss of the own department is not allowed to see into the money transfers in his own department.
if the boss of his own department does not have ability to control where the money goes, who right now actually is in charge of the money??

do not trust any of those articles, they do not list a single money transfer despite there being lots released.
they do cancel/halt those projects where the money does not go to the actual stated cause.

Trump rightfully cancels all this corrupt money laundering operation which has been proven according to released documents that they were funneling money around like this:
USAID or other department -> Some "Philantrophic" Entity or some NGO or some Project -> some random "humanitarian" project like CFS research -> Back to selected politicians and buerocrats.

Thats how a 100 million in research for CFS research somehow does not come up with anything. Because there is money going into a project named "CFS RESEARCH" and it actually goes around and does something completely else.
Or did anyone of you have the feeling that despite millions of money for CFS going around, that anything at all changed the last 10-20 years? people still dying in hospitals due to starvation!!! its not even so that they acknowledge the disease!

millions in money going around, and they do not even recognize the disease!!

Mainstream media does not report about ANYTHING which have been going on, they only spin up this crazy narratives of overreach because they are the beneficiary of the money laundering. all those people who receive money are those who are screaming now.
do not believe anything in the media, just look at the papers which got released documentating the money transfers, most of them on X released by DOGE workers.
if you see where the money went, you will see whats happening.

its even more corruption as i was believing going on.

also the Trump Administration already said, that projects and funding which are essential will not be interrupted, or move to another department.

Fortunately, the states are trying to stop the cuts through suits.

22 states sue to block Trump administration cuts to NIH research payments

https://www.statnews.com/2025/02/10...ng-cuts/?utm_campaign=rss&utm_source=flatplan

Political analyst and historian Heather Cox Richardson wrote yesterday in her "Letters from an American" :

"This evening, Massachusetts U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley blocked the Trump appointees at the National Institutes of Health from implementing the rate change they wanted to apply to NIH grants. But, as legal analyst Joyce White Vance notes, the only relief sought is for the twenty-two Democratic-led states that have sued, keeping Republican-dominated states from freeloading on their Democratic counterparts. As Josh Marshall noted today in Talking Points Memo, it appears a pattern is emerging in which Democratic-led states are suing the administration while officials from Republican-led states, which are even harder hit by Trump’s cuts than their Democratic-led counterparts, are asking Trump directly for help or exceptions."

Man, there is so much misinformation here I don't even know where to begin. If you want to talk about 'crazy narratives', look no further than what the Trump administration is spinning. It's unbelievable to me that anyone could believe a single word out of that man's mouth.

What's funny is that a decade ago we probably would have been mostly aligned about this topic. I agree that a lot of medical research is feckless, wasteful, and subject to a bureaucracy that is somehow both overbearing and slothlike. Medical research funding, or just the use of public funding in general, is definitely in need of reform.

But to hand the reins of this initiative to Trump (an insolent, narcissistic criminal sociopath) and Musk (much the same, and also the literal richest man in the entire world) is several orders of magnitude worse than doing nothing about the issue. These are people who zero incentive to improve the situation, and both the means and the desire to extort, grift, and capture as much wealth and power as they can, relying on the political support of equally corrupt politicians and easily-outraged rubes.

They tell you 'don't believe the media', but what they really want is for you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. You shouldn't trust the media blindly, but it's far more foolish to completely cut off all sources of information outside of what's approved by this insane, greedy cult. Most of the documentation of this supposed 'corruption' is easily debunked, especially by people far more informed than either of us, who are personally familiar with how exactly the funding/grant processes play out. But it still takes far more effort to debunk bullshit than it does to produce it, so unless you are willing to fully investigate the reality of their claims, or at least have the wisdom to discern who has, in good faith, actually done this investigation themselves, then all viewpoints seem interchangeable. Make no mistake: this 'firehose of falsehood' is 100% intentional, and the aim is to produce an uncritical, gullible, conspiracy-minded and anger-fueled allegiance to these wolves in sheeps' clothing. And it's working. Apparently, we are living in a post-truth world.

Please, don't hand over your brain to a group of people who hate you. It will play out the same way as every other group who tries to bank on Trump and his cronies for help. Like conservative farmers who only later realize that tariffs and deportation of their workforce are about to annihilate their livelihood. Or people on Social Security/Medicare who believed Trump's thinly disguised promises to not touch these programs. And now, ME/CFS research will grind to an absolute halt. All the slow progress we've achieved in getting recognition for this disease (admittedly not enough, but better than nothing) will be erased.
