One thing that was missed is the value of micronutrients. Locusts keep eating till they eat enough protein. Thats the switch that turns if off. Our soils and processed foods, and foods that sit for many days before being eaten, are lower in micronutrients than ever before. If we are sensitive to that, then we are in a bind. If each generation needs to eat less calories to maintain normal weight, but each generation needs to eat more food to get the nutrients we need, then we will tend to optimize the two, I suspect. A return to organically grown local food might help with this though.
