Sugar cravings

Since the day i got sick I've had this insatiable carb & sugar craving. It seems to vary depending on my electrolyte intake- if i get it right the cravings are at a minimum, if i get the electrolyte mix wrong i could spend the night shaking because I'm craving sugar so badly.
I've never been able to stabalize this. I never had this before getting ill but it's been 24/7 since then. Multiple blood and gut tests check out fine for candida or other intestinal infections so i really think it's something related to the electrolytes. Anyone else have this?

Have you ever had a 3 or 4 hour glucose tolerance test? This would check to see if you are dropping into hypoglycemia over those hours. It is possible to have consistently normal fasting glucose test but still have hypoglycemia if you go a few hours without eating.

Are you taking any medicine or supplement which could be a stimulant?

When I weaned off of my natural thyroid*, low-dose dhea, and iodine supplements, my episodes of hypoglycemia improved dramatically. I didn't wean off of them for that reason but later in retrospection realized that instead of daily episodes--some which were getting very bad--I only get an episode maybe 1-2 per week.

You may not be using these same supplements but you could see if something you're on is creating this. Foods can cause this too if you have a hidden sensitivity. You could try tracking it if you have a food diary. For instance, cow's milk does this too me. Also if I eat a banana, I almost always get a drop within about 45 minutes.

Finally are you eating frequent small meals that incorporate healthy carbs, protein and fat together. I like Dr Diana Schwartzbein's books because she gives all the reasons why we need to eat those in balance. For instance, eating a protein/fat meal alone will raise your adrenaline levels and can set off hypoglycemia.

Hope you're able to figure this out for your own body though. Those drops are horrible.

Dr Wilson has a good page here too but lots of info. Posting just in case you would find it helpful.

I do think we talk a lot about cortisol levels but I'd be interested to know what the adrenaline levels look like at the same time.

Edit: *I do still take thyroid medicine for my hypothyroid. Thought I should clarify on that. I just was on too much thyroid with the NDT being a problem for me. Some people do well on it and I tried to for 11 years but even though the doctor kept pushing it, I had a feeling all along that that was a problem for me. So don't go off your thyroid medicine if your doctor has prescribed one for you!!!

I don't believe I've had that particular test done but i do suffer from hypoglycemia considering adrenal fatigue was how my health issues started

I've been dx'd with mast cell activation and i wonder if that may be the cause because eating more frequently wrecks me. I do best eating twice a day but still, the sugar cravings come on bad after i eat. Even if i have hypoglycemia drops those are less painful than what happens after eating, regardless of what it is

I get candida if I eat too complex of foods that can't be broken down by my measly microbial army (Go Team GO!) Hey, I have faith they will rally someday and take on bigger fibers, more complex foods, but until then I'm on a white rice diet with some veggies. I'm about 75% carb.

(Edit) I've been hypoglycemic my entire life. I'm not sure why but that has improved generally. No waking up at 2am with the growlies. No vomiting from low blood sugar, getting the shakes, turning white...etc. I can't actually explain why my hypo would have improved, on paper it should be worse.

this won't be informative as I am no science brain (even when I had a brain!) but I think one of the reasons keto diet works for some is it is helpful for stabilising blood sugar. writing this from place of crash I suspect might be partly to do with deciding I would eat whatever I liked (cake) just to see what happened..... got to keto idea from fasting making me feel better.... possible implications too complicated to comprehend (for me) but my consistently tedious conclusion for me is you need extraordinary self discipline in all areas to survive and even that's no guarantee. quite cross atm but without the energy to express it. often how I get to my "cake or die" or "chocolate or suicide" moments which I'm gradually having to acknowledge are probably counterproductive  . apologies for the ramble on!

I struggle with this a lot, Try doing one table spoon of MCT oil (I am no doctor) but it bypasses the energy conversion Cycle, and it gives you instant energy. Read on it, since it can upset the tummy (my down fall in live), but I get better results.
