Significant improvement on low dose amisulpride / abilify combo Valcyte and Huperzine A

Hi everyone

I’m thrilled to inform PR that I have gone from barely able to stand to walking to the shops and driving daily.

During the last two months of gradual improvement I’ve only had PEM once which lasted about 5 days. My tinnitus also seems to have improved. Cognitively im slightly better.

The treatment protocol has been a revelation for me and just about the only thing to have improved my symptoms in over 40 years. I’m 57.

Sounds promising! Have you been taking all these medications just for the last two months? If so, I suspect it is Abilify which may be the main factor in your improvement. This is because Valcyte normally takes 3 or 4 months to even begin creating improvements, and about a year for the full benefits to appear.

I’ve been taking abilify on and off for about 18 months, but I moved up a gear on mestinon and later Huperzine A. I improved again after just weeks on Valcyte. I’m thinking the Valcyte might have shifted my immune system in a positive direction. Who knows? But I’m improving and that’s the main take out.

Prior to taking abilify / amisulpride combo I’d been taking abilify for some time but it lost effectiveness, so I added amisulpride.

Had 9 months of Valtrex and no benefit and it gave me kidney stones to boot.

My ME started as a teenager after I had very severe chicken pox and then hospitalised with glandular shortly after contracting the chickenpox. I’ve never recovered.

Had side effects with the Valcyte mainly nausea but not severe. I switched taking from morning to about 7pm in the evening after a substantial meal and my stomach soon settled down. Apart from that I seem to be tolerating Valcyte very well.

Just a side note, famvir has a better safety profile over valtrex when it comes to kidney stones, so if you need to come off valcyte, there's another option.

Yes nice to know there is other options. Hoping improvement continues on my current protocol. I’m also taking thiamine.

Can you share what dose of mestinon you were on and the dose of huperzine a? I’m currently on a tiny dose 30mg twice daily of mestinon. It definitely helps but I can’t increase it due to my severe neuropathic pain which gets worse. I could look into huperzine a but unsure what the benefits are over mestinon.

I can only speak for myself but Huperzine A seems to be a slightly better fit than Mestinon. I was taking 40 mg of Mestinon 3 times a day. Now I just take one tablet of Huperzine A.

I was taking 40 mg of Mestinon 3 times a day. Now I just take one tablet of Huperzine A.

It appears you're saying you no longer take Mestinon, is that correct? Also, I seem to recall you had been experiencing some kind of "side effects" from Mestinon, is that correct? Any "side effects" from Huperzine A, other than the benefits you're getting? -- Again, congratulations!

The only difference in effectiveness is that mestinon cured my constipation whereas Huperzine A isn’t as effective in that department. Other than that huperzine A seems to be at least as good as Mestinon.

And yes you are correct Wayne, I’ve stopped the Mestinon.

its keeping acetylcholin longer alive, i wonder, what if taking stuff which boost acetylcholin production would help as well?
like
- choline from eggs
- acetylcarnitine (for the acetylgroup)
- probably b vitamins especially thiamin (b1), and also b12, b6, folate, b2.
