The shingles vaccine is going to be more available in Australia soon. If people don't know, I get reoccurring shingles on my head even while on antivirals, just not as severe.
So anyone had reoccurring shingles that were stopped by the vaccine??
It would be nice not to take the antivirals all the time, but stopping them after the vaccine scares the crap out of me.
The quandary I have is even before shingles, blood work said I had good immunity to varicella. When I did stop antivirals a few years ago, which I was taking for possible ebv, cmv and varicella/chickenpox, I broke out in my first bad shingles episode, even though blood work said I had good immunity. My cfs dr at the time said the 'good' antibodies were probably indicating an active infection. It's quite possible you not only need antibodies but good nk function which I don't have.
2 shingles episodes I've had when off antivirals gave me a good 3 month hiding and then a slow recovery.
To confuse the whole thing, when I got up this morning my wife said your spots are back, struth! Extra famvir and acyclovir cream on the spots. All things considered, I don't feel too bad, but......
