This seems to indicate that quercetin will stop you from losing muscle mass in unused muscles.

That would be good news for those of us who are unable to move around very much.

These findings demonstrate that 1 can prevent disused muscle atrophy by attenuating the expression of ubiquitin ligases and that such prevention originates from its antioxidant activity.

Beware that quercetin in a cyp3a4 inhibitor so boosts the absorption of many drugs and supplements. I learned this the hard way.

That would be nice!

Very good to know. I wonder if quercetin would have the same effect on Coq10 absorption as grapefruit juice does. Grapefruit juice is also a cyp3a4 inhibitor and also enhances CoQ10 absorption.

I've just started taking Natural Factors Bioactive Quercetin (supposed to have 40 times greater absorption than regular quercetin), hoping it will help with sleep - quercetin is a histamine blocker and histamine induces wakefulness. but I'll keep an eye on my meds to see if I have any untoward effects!

I noted they injected this directly into mice muscles, which made me wonder, knowing Quercetin has absorption issues.

I had some muscles ten years ago (was just looking at some photos of myself before The Worsening)

@Rufous McKinney - I had muscles when my twins were babies - lifting babies all day long is a great workout! I haven't had any muscles to speak of for quite a long time unfortunately, 26 years to be precise I think . . . so ten years ago is not bad!

I think most of us have trouble with sleep so it would be extremely nice to find something without horrible effects that not only helped us sleep but helped us retain muscle! What more do you want?

Quercetin is often sold mixed with bromelain to aid in absorption. Also, I think taking it with something that contains fat helps with absorption. We are having a lot of pollen here this week, and it's helping with allergies.

@Violeta - what brand do you take?

btw, the Natural Factors Bioactive Quercetin EMIQ does seem to be helping with sleep. SOMETHING is helping - I also started sitting outside for about 30 mins early in the morning (8:00 ish) and that may be helping too. I take one cap with lunch and one with dinner.

@Mary, I bought bulk quercetin from Bulk Supplements and I mix it with bromelain powder.

I'm not sure yet if it helps with sleep. I see it mentioned as being so good for so many things, it's just amazing.
