Anybody got ideas for meaningful low-energy ways to contribute to our communities / the world?

I used to write letters to prisoners, ie, but the last couple years I have had a really hard time with formulating words. Feeling like I want a reason to get out of bed in the morning, just a little something I can do without draining my battery or leaving the house very much.

Hi, @Arius

Thanks for starting this thread.

I, too, would love to find a way to contribute to the world, but tough to imagine how with a broken body and brain.

I'm sorry that you are not able to correspond with prisoners anymore.

I hope others will provide you with good suggestions!

Maybe instead of letters to the prisoners............just right down a short note.
I'm not sure how artistic you are, but perhaps you could create pretty postcards to send with that short message? Just playing with watercolors can be very relaxing and create beautiful art without too much effort.

When I have the energy--which isn't always--I do charity knitting. Hats usually don't take much time to knit, so I can feel like I've accomplished a lot.

If you can tolerate screens, transcribing old documents can be fulfilling. I've transcribed documents for the Arolsen Archives and the Smithsonian.

There's also citizen science projects on Zooniverse. Some of them take very little brainpower.

I also think how with my low energy envelope I could help, witting letters to maybe unknown prisoners does take unproportionate effort in choosing words, for not being misunderstood.

On the other hand, one area where there is really terrible unaddressed, even ignored suffering, is the ME/CFS community here. Trying to answer here doesn't usually require too much sensitive formulating, since most of us know the symptom of brain-fog, sabotaging. Most do have already years of experience with this condition and have something to share.

A small sentence might make all the difference to the other person. Or not, how it is received is always out of our own hands.

If the phone doesnt wear you out, a quick phone call to check on an elserly or lonely neighbor to see how theyre doing in the heat wave or hurricane or whatever is often very much appreciated

And if youre ordering a sandwich to be delivered for yourself, getting a second to give to someone who ykunthink is struggling is also a little thing thst goes a long way. (They can stop by to pick it up)

Its a good question. Maybe Think about a little thing that woukd make your day if soneone did it for you- and do it for someone else. Its a bigger help than it seems because people tend to pay itv forward so yiur one small act gets magnified exponentially

Something i tried to do once didn't work out. I wanted to donate 50 new small stuffed animals to local hospital trying to bring a bit of comfort . Man what a pain. They want money not toys i guess. Had to nix the plan.
