This nice review tells how mitochondria are involved in the management of immune responses, as far as known, and it may look promising for understanding chronic illnesses.

But the article neither does say that every immune system involving disease has its fault in mitochondria,

nor does the article show this for ME/CFS.

This thread summarizes findings on mitochondria in ME/CFS, and it seems that the mitochondria which have been looked at ITSELF are completely fine - which of course does not say that an influence on ME/CFS via mitochondria - maybe by nutrition - couldn´t be a good strategy.

In practical hindsight, the article rises hope that chronic illnesses are run by metabolic switches.

I think, a metabolic switch could be hold by other entities which could be stable in own their parameters. In this case it would be misleading to call the disease a mitochondria one, even if they are altered and can be influenced.
