Potential role of the common food additive manufactured citric acid in eliciting significant inflammatory reactions contributing to serious disease states: A series of four case reports

I happened across this while trying to find canned tomatoes which don't contain citric acid. For most of my life I thought that citric acid added to processed foods was benign, that it came from, well, citrus fruits etc. Until I discovered my severe sensitivity to MSG in all its iterations (see https://www.truthinlabeling.org/names.html ) and how it caused severe insomnia for me, keeping me awake most of the night. And read about commercial citric acid and how it's made and found I reacted to that too with insomnia.

The four people discussed in this study all had severe reactions to manufactured citric acid. (read the article to find out how it's made) But it took them several years and countless fruitless visits to all sorts of doctors before they discovered that the MCA was causing all the problems.

So many here on PR have all sorts of digestive difficulties, muscle and joint pain, enervation - I urge you to read the case studies. Some of you just might be reacting to MCA. Who wouldda thunk?

Some of their symptoms:

She reports developing severe diffuse joint and muscle pain in the upper and lower extremities with associated joint swelling, abdominal bloating with cramping and feeling enervated within 6–12 h of ingesting foods that contain MCA.

He describes that his enervation is not sleepiness, but enervation similar to that reported by persons with chronic fatigue syndrome.

At 73 years of age, she reported a long-standing history of severe diffuse upper and lower extremity joint and muscle pain with associated swelling. Similar to the patient in Case 1, she underwent an extensive work-up for auto-immune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, vitamin deficiencies, and serum metal levels, all of which were negative

She developed severe enervation and mental fatigue during that two year period. Her medical work-up for these symptoms was negative. Her symptoms limited her ability to perform her daily professional tasks as a physician.

btw, the only canned tomatoes I found without citric acid come from Italy - yep. The best price I found was for 6 cans of Contadina San Marzano Style whole tomatoes. I did find a brand at my local store called Red Gold - and it says its citric acid is "naturally derived". I'm going to contact them and see exactly what that means . . .

We are being poisoned by our food in the US. Who knows the extent of it. Tons of people when traveling abroad end up losing weight despite eating more in quantity and richness, gluten sensitive people can eat bread and pasta, people's guts feel better and are more normal, etc.
