I thought this was a very interesting article in the NEJM on how doctors learn - and can learn - in the course of their work, and with their students.

I hope that such doctors have a healthy scepticism about the sites they consult. I understand that UptoDate.com can leave something to be desired, for example.

Things that spring to mind are:
  • It confirms that/how scientifically-literate - and even just reasonably-intelligent - patients, carers, etc. can be more knowledgeable than (their) doctors, as they too can use such sites (as do many of us).
  • Available info often fails to include crucial things which doctors and patients need to know
  • I think there was something else but I've forgotten!
