I also want to say that one should also caution getting their hopes up too high. This has always ended very very badly for me. I think just being more neutral is the way to go.
Certainly, unrealistic expectations usually lead to disappointment. As far as I know, no reputable doctor is claiming miracle cures for ME/CFS. Looking for a huge improvement in a short time is not realistic, and I advise against it, too.
However, our best docs -- and Klimas and Rey are among them -- can improve our quality of life substantially
over time. We have a lot of things going wrong with us and most of us are sensitive to extreme changes in anything, so good treatments take time which means we have to have patience and persistence to get substantial improvements.
In my view, the best ME/CFS docs are those who understand that there's no magic cure, but are willing to stick with us in the long haul working on improving the many problems we struggle with. That means they have to have a big arsenal including treatments for gut issues, pain, OI of various sorts, sleep dysfunction, infections, and immune dysfunction. Klimas and Rey, as well as other ME/CFS specialists, have both the dedication and the arsenal to be a huge help to PWME. But we have to do our part, too, which means pacing correctly (oh, how we all hate that
), sticking with our therapies for the duration, and communicating with our doctors.
ME/CFS is not for the weak-hearted or the weak-willed. Cures, if they come at all, come rarely. Remissions aren't even all that common, but when they do come, they seem to require a lot of determination and patience.
