How can i increase mental energy

One of my biggest problems is brain fatigue. I know that's a large reason why I crave carb.s and sugar so much. I'm very strict on my diet and can't eat carbs because of candida that I can't kick but if I do eat anything fermented or sugary I feel much better for a brief time. Mood increases, mental fatigue declines and just a general sense of well being.
However, I know I can't regularly do that because it has consequences on my gut. Is there anything we can do/take that can decrease mental fatigue? Buhner recommends carnitine but that has never done much for me

Apigenin seemed to give me a slight reduction in mental lethargy. Really very little, but enough that I bought more (it was cheap). Sadly, it stopped having a noticeable effect partway through the second bottle, which is typical for ME treatments. That's the only thing I found that had any noticeable effect on my mental lethargy.

Cold Thermogenesis is your friend.

Crashed me. Bad. Real bad, like for a year. It completely tanked my immune system. I still do it nowadays but in whatever doses I can which is very little. Taking a hot shower then standing outside in the cold for 20 minutes, finishing a warm shower with cold, cold face dunks when i can. Stuff like that

Acetyl-L-Carnitine rather than straight Carnitine. People seem to find that it can keep them awake it they take it too late in the day. Taking with Choline (bitartrate), Alpha GPC or Citicoline which works best of all will help acetylcholine production. Choline is used up by the liver phase 2 detox purposes and has a high requirement in CFS. Therefore getting plenty of choline can be helpful/beneficial. It should be combined with Inositol. If I was you I would supplement Choline bitartrate which is fairly inexpensive and provides a lot of Choline (41%), Inositol, Citicoline and ALCAR.

Cordyceps in high doses, work up slowly. Helps overall energy and it can also reduce cytokines which are a big part of the problems in CFS. I also seem to remember it as having some antifungal activity which might also help your candida.

Tu Si Zi (Dodder seed) I swear by and would not be without it. It normalizes cortisol and supports the Liver/Kidney energy which are disrupted in CFS. It can be a little constipating but it is worth working around that IMO. Taking it with Gou Qi Zi (wolfberry/ often corrupted to Goji Berry) is recommended.

Do you think this effect is directly from the sugar? Possibly from its fermentation?

I suspected this for a while. I believe that may play a part if I do eat something carby but I rarely do. If I est ketogenic I also have issues because my liver can't handle all the fat so there's a middle ground I live in. It's so hard to tell

what is the added benefit of taking with goji berry? And do you know what the side effects of Tu si I are? Does it affect serotonin?

If you are strictly limiting carbs, have you tried switching to the keto diet? Upping your fat intake could give you a boost in energy. It did for me. I check my ketones regularly and find when they are around 1.0, I feel best.
