An increased risk of death by suicide was found among individuals hospitalized with infection in prospective and dose-response relationships. These findings indicate that infections may have a relevant role in the pathophysiological mechanisms of suicidal behaviour.

That's pretty interesting, but it didn't address the quality of life of the people after they left the hospital. They might have lost limbs, eyesight, etc. or had brain damage, or needed dialysis.... These might be more significant than depression caused by an infection. Plus the phenomenon sometimes called "ICU delerium."
