Has anyone used Ashwagandha at high doses?

I’ve tried a few things now to help glutamate/NMDA receptors, and nothing works apart from Ashwagandha extract. I use 4 capsules daily (1800mg) and feel it’s effects. Does anyone know the highest dose one could take of Ashwagandha or the extract and not cause trouble?

Todd Caldecott has just written a detailed blog about Ashwagandha: https://toddcaldecott.com/benefits-uses-ashwagandha/ - worth reading for traditional backround information on dosing.

In the case of Ashwagandha, a high dose for adults of up to 15-30 g of the powdered root can be used in cases of severe exhaustion, fatigue, nervous stress, and acute insomnia. High doses, however, are typically used only for a short period, under proper supervision, until the client has become stabilized. In such cases, Ashwagandha is best prepared in A2-milk, taken warm with a little ghee and jaggery, on an empty stomach.

Considering that most western herbal extract are standartized to a 5:1 concentration, 1800mg of extract would amount to about 9g of powdered root. Since the medium range - which could be used long term by many - is only 2-5g (400-1000mg of extract), if I would be you I actually would try to reduce the dose for long term use. And try to add othersynergistic Ayurvedic herbs.

Also has a Ashwagandha monograph here: https://toddcaldecott.com/herbs/ashwagandha/
