Hi, has anyone heard of someone or been that person who actually had a virus, took a looonng time (but less than a year I presume as afterwards it’s just something else in my eyes) to recover, so actually had PVF which went away? As many doctors are too quick and too stubborn to look into anything rather than post viral fatigue, even when it’s been a long time since u got the virus! Hope I’m making sense...thanks.

Yes you are making sense @Tella
Welcome to Phoenix Rising by the way :)

Well, last December I was convinced I had got better from what I thought was more PVF than ME/CFS. At that stage it had lasted from the previous March and a strange atypical bout of flu or flu-like illness. I did have one or two "off days" occasionally, but that's all they were through the winter.

In the end, disappointingly, it hadn't gone, but came back; started creeping back late February just as the Spring started. So it was more of a remission than a cure.

Really wish I could say "yes" to your question.:(

Thank u and sorry to hear u are still unwell! That’s why it’s so hard for me to believe any recovery stories, at least not the ones where one gets totally and absolutely cured...

It is an unrealistic expectation, but I am always thinking mine is just going to "go away" one day ! Every day I think the same.
I don't know if there are total "cures". It would be nice to find some.

There is one study which found if you have post-viral fatigue after mononucleosis, you can be still ill at the 12 month stage, but by 24 months you can be back to normal.

Here’s to hoping! I hope the same thing. In any case, I grateful to have what I have so let’s be positive!

Thanks! It’s just hard to differentiate between mono and another virus etc... I had a virus I guess but it wasn’t a classic mono... and even then as u know those with actual mono may still stay Ill. I’m just happy to feel less lonely in this journey. Would be great to have a meet up in all different countries from this forum one day when we are able to

@Tella it may be possible to have antibody screening tests for mono (EBV) But I am unsure how they work....It may show that you had it at some time, or that it has reactivated (?) Others will know more about it, and hopefully, might comment.

Mono does have distinctive symptoms which might set it apart from the regular "flu" or something similar:
Fatigue.
Sore throat, perhaps misdiagnosed as strep throat, that doesn't get better after treatment with antibiotics.
Fever.
Swollen lymph nodes in your neck and armpits.
Swollen tonsils.
Headache.
Skin rash.
Soft, swollen spleen.

But of course, if you had an atypical form, it might be hard to know if you had it or not. I knew someone who did have it, and she took some time to feel better, though did make a full recovery. I seem to recall she did have some low times for at least a year afterwards. She was very young (about 17 when she caught it) That was in the early 80s.

It's difficult to tell what infection you might have had, if it was an atypical form, and the symptoms didn't fit in the profile.
I was the same with my peculiar "flu". It didn't fit into any profile of any viral infection whatsoever ! And believe me, I exhausted the list of viral infections !

I tested positive for ebv and another virus. However it’s impossible to tell which virus (it may even be one that I never got tested for) made me this ill. And it’s impossible to tell whose ebv infection will make them sick for life or not....anyway, I guess I’m just trying to find some slither of hope.

Yes I had it twice and 100% recovered if not more. PVF isn't ME they are not the same thing. PVF should resolve within 6 months. An ME diagnosis starts at the 6 month period but I have seen people who have had EBV etc recover to almost normal levels within 14 months. As many of us in the community know if symptoms persist for 3 years without marked recovery then that really isn't good news. Hope this helps.
