This is one of the better explanations of histamine metabolism that I've found. I don't understand all of it of course - it's pretty technical!

Yeah, way too technical for me. But I did understand this:
"Once released, histamine is metabolized almost exclusively by methylation or oxidation..."
My take is that this is most likely quite a pervasive way a person's body can have their methylation cycle disrupted. Most likely in conjunction with critical methylation nutrients and/or anti-oxidant reserves depleted, leading to a vicious cycle.
