I thought this was interesting in a "new hope for medical treatments" way: engineering a virus to change specific cell functions. Lots more work to be done, but it looks like an impressive new tool for the medical toolbox. If ME is based on a specific membrane channel or other function, maybe they can engineer a virus to correct it. Someday.

Finally. Do you know how long we've been waiting for such a thing. Not just for our illness(es), but for all those people who suffer. I consider it one of medicine's biggest failures....the non-availability of pain killing methods.

This sounds promising and it directly relates to pain. I have no idea why I'm not an addict....mainly because none of the usual sources put before us didn't work and I knew better than to go down that path.

I have seen a Pain Specialist and he wanted me to have an implant. OK, but the problem is once I looked into it, after less than a year the implant didn't work but I never did find out exactly what occurred after that period. I declined.....but this at least sounds somewhat promising.

Many years ago, I was one of the first people on Gabapentin..... yes, it helped by lowering the volume, but had a lot of side-effects, including losing my mind (it seemed). Finally, after 3 mos., it really did help with the pain and my thinking did clear. In the beginning the doses were way too high, but that has now been adjusted. Today I'm on its child, Lyrica, and it also works very well. I probably need to go up in dose, we'll see.

I've become my own doctor mainly b/c of my neurologist dying and other specialists retiring. We don't think of that, do we?

We have so many problems. It will take time to sort them out, but if we can start with something as serious as pain, we've been helped plus society at large. Let's hope it actually goes somewhere. Yours, Lenora
