A small step for man, but a big step for ... My dysfunctional hypothalamus?

Anyway. I did it. It's 9am and I'm awake, with no signs of tiredness. I may have a non 24 hour sleep wake phase. I'm thinking my best bet is to keep pushing until I turn things around again to its natural order.

Has anybody who is not infested with with trypanosomes experienced this? Any recommendations other that a last ditch lobotomy? :D

Yes, it’s extremely common in ME. I don’t see a lot of contemporary ME doctors mention it, but past doctors such as Richardson and Dowsett did. I’ve not been able to ascertain any difference between what I experience and the sleep cycle disturbance that certain types of blindness cause.

I think our hypothalamus just completely loses the ability to entrain with zeitgebers. I’m left with two patterns. One where I continually shift my bedtime around the clock hour by hour over weeks and months. Another where I can roughly stick to a time for a few months, but then suddenly will be wide awake and my bedtime will shift by 5 or more hours one night, accompanied by mind racing and hot flashes.

I’ve yet to find a solution to this. Dowsett said melatonin is useless in combatting this problem.

I think it’s mostly harmless, it’s just extremely annoying and inconvenient.

Interesting. I didn't realise the hypothalamus was involved!:jaw-drop: Yes I know....my bad.

I am not completely inverted but have dsps. No too badly. I am happier going to sleep around 1.30-2am and waking around 10am. That's still night here! haha....well, almost.
I think my body wants to wake up after the sun has really risen, and things get slightly warmer.
I've had it most of my life so in my case not sure it's connected to CFS.

I admire anyone who can work around the clock like that to get to a sociable bedtime/wakening.

I don't care any more. I just do what suits me, but I don't have to fit in with things (retired)
