Emotional Reactions

Hi Everyone
I have CSF or Long Covid.
I have never been a very emotional person.
During my ongoing sickness I have spells of crying off and on whenever I am watching something on tv when its Happy or Sad!
I dont have this response when watching what I consider a normal tv show or movie.
I have been on quite a few depression meds and they dont help.

Does anyone else have this condition?
Thanks

I've been the opposite. Probably due to early trauma, I couldn't feel many emotions in my youth. I felt such emotionlessness rather depressing, and unsure how all unconscious suppressed emotions could still drive my choices.

Therefore, I started to explore my subconsciousness and learn to be with emotions. Life is so much richer for any of them, if one doesn't make the mistake to identify too much, and act them out. Instead, just enjoy them for being part and parcel of a whole life.

That's the main reason I would avoid all antidepressants, which could just numb it down again.

I understand that for you, it was not sought for, and therefore maybe considered a bad unsought for condition.

However, seeing something sad or uplifting, why not cry for a short time? Shedding tears for sure is a normal physiologic response, and probably even beneficial for the eyes.

Couldn't resist, and asked perplexity.ai.

Shedding tears, especially emotional crying, has several beneficial physiological effects supported by research. Crying activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps the body relax and self-soothe, potentially leading to a calmer biological and emotional state1910. Emotional tears are also associated with the release of oxytocin and endorphins, which are natural chemicals that can ease both physical and emotional pain and help improve mood35410.
Key physiological benefits of shedding tears include:
  • Detoxification: Emotional tears contain stress hormones and certain toxins, and crying helps flush these substances out of the body, potentially reducing stress128910.
  • Pain relief: The chemicals released during crying, such as endorphins, act as natural painkillers35910.
  • Mood enhancement: The release of oxytocin and endorphins after crying may help elevate mood and promote a sense of well-being34.
  • Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system: Crying can lower heart rate, slow breathing, and bring about a sense of calm after emotional arousal1910.
Additional physiological effects:
  • Temperature regulation: Sobbing may help regulate core body and brain temperature, which can further improve mood10.
  • Lubrication and immune support: All types of tears help lubricate and protect the eyes from infection2.
While many reported benefits are supported by research, some mechanisms—such as the detoxification of stress hormones—require further scientific study for confirmation12810.
In summary, shedding tears does have multiple beneficial physiological effects related to stress reduction, emotional regulation, pain relief, and the maintenance of healthy biological functions.

Same here.

I can cry at a moments notice, meaning, easily and often.

The detoxing and de-stressing aspects I've been aware of for many years, so I do not "suppress" these feelings which can include tears welling up because something is beautiful or wonderful.

And its a reason I can't imagine taking anti depressants and having emotional feelings suppressed or squelched, or flattened.

But because my eyes are a mess, a bit of crying doesn't feel good whereas it used to be sort of a release of some type.

Hi pamojja
That is a very Awesome response !
And please feel free any time to add what you want to.
Everyone can be direct with me and tell me like it is !
I Appreciate it ! Direct and meaningful.
I never been without emotion and I dont mind a Good cry.
The reason my Dr. has been trying antidepressants is to see if it helps my chronic fatigue only.
Hold your head up high and enjoy Life!
You deserve It!

The reason my Dr. has been trying antidepressants is to see if it helps my chronic fatigue only.

Similar experience here. Had a brain MRI due to ME, which found a 3cm area of an old stroke in my cerebellum. Of which I don't remember any symptoms ever. Asked the ordering neurologist, what this could mean? Only shrug, she wouldn't know, but could prescribe me an antidepressant instead. :(

Hi
I am very Sorry to hear that.
And I know that feeling way too much
When you ask a Dr. a question and they scrunch thier shoulders and say they dont know , or want to send you to another Dr. to get rid of you because you dont fit into thier spread sheet catagory.
My Dr. has me on a second trial to see if it helps.
I am taking Adderall and it has been a game changer so far. I discovered I had brain fog that I never realized i had.
I am thinking so much clearer now and i have some energy.
I know it's just a patch ! But at this point I will take a patch.
So far it has not changed my emotions.
My scrunch word is your shrug comparison.
Thanks
Say Hi to me any time or just discuss issues.

Hi Rufous
Cry all you want to if it helps!
I dont mind crying either it does help!
You probably already know by reading the other post.
My Dr. is trying it just for my chronic fatigue not my crying that my Dr. knows about.
Heck I have been crying ever since I started reading everyones replies!
Its hard to type with blurred eyes LOL
With my cfs my grammer has been the least of my concerns.
Lets all grab some tissue and have a good cry. Dont forget to have some visine drops for latter.
I wish everyone a speedy Recovery!

Yes! what is with that?

My eyes pour, typically earlier in the day when I am waking up. As in I have to mop my eyes, they pour so much.

And so if those tears get rid of toxins, I must be CURED by now! What gives?
Hi
I only cry when I see something on tv that is Happy or Sad at this point .
I have that diaphram response when I cry.
It's like several quick breathes in constantly!
I agree we should be Cured
