My issue started in 2013 as extreme gas and bloating, noticed I get diarrhea if I take antibiotics or sometimes it cures my gas, then in 2015 I started getting extreme fatigue, irritable and unable to concentrate and weird food reactions as listed below.

Main Symptoms:

  • Gas: So much gas in my body and unable to control it. It tends to have no smell at all and is more like bubbles popping. I could feel even gas in my legs and arms.
  • Fatigue: Unable to concentrate, brain fog, weak, no energy , irritable. I do not have energy to do exercises or do any kind of sports. I tend to stay more at my room. I tend not focus properly.
  • Hyperactivity: Suddenly getting hyper active, jumping, and getting sugar cravings.
  • Inflammation: Suddenly getting inflammation on the cheeks and I feel I am unable to breath.
  • Reactions to Dairy, Bread, Sugar, Fried Food, Sweets:
    • Taking dairy or bread, pasta, fried food gives me pain in my body (I tend to feel weak) and gives me an enormous amount of gas.
    • Milk or a cappuccino would cause an almost immediate severe diarrhea and cramping. But this is not always the case and was more often in the early times. Note that previously I used to take milk on dairy basis without issus.
    • Sweet fruits (mango, chico, plums..) or dried fruits cause an increase in the gas.

Other symptoms I noticed:

  • Always feeling cold. The gas, irritability and fatigue increases in colder environments.
  • Brown urine residue in the bathroom after urinating. This appears after 2-4 hours. I had this since I was around 11 years old.
  • Belly button itch. This started back again when I was around 11-13 and was suspected caused most likely by fungal infection as I was able to cure it by taking fucicort. Daily regime is to scrub my body with salt during shower and taking fucicort whenever the symptoms flare and it tend to go away.
  • Random acid reflux: I do not have this normally. Of course taking citrus fruits or pineapple increase the symptoms, I noticed I get more heart burn during June-July-August period.
  • Heart Beat in arms: Sometimes I get a feeling of like heart beats in my right or left arm.
  • Sensitive to perfumes, chemicals: At some point of time, I tended to get very cold and increase of gas and cheeks inflammation whenever I put on a perfume or I use a cleaning spray during house or car cleaning, or spraying my hair with water when having my hair cut in the barbershop.
  • Sense of taste and smell are reduced: I noticed my colleagues tend to have stronger sense of smell than I do. my smell and taste are much improved the next day after if I take pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
  • Headache from wireless chargers: This happens only with one device we have.
  • Breathing issues: Noticed sometimes I am unable to breath properly from left nose nostril. Diagnosed with elevated nostril.

Food remedies:

  • Taking any of the below listed tend to give a temporary relief from fatigue and gives a clear brain, but at a cost of either:
    • Diarrhea (Coconut Milk, Thai Soups)
    • Hyperactivity (Green Apple, Pumpkin & Sunflower Seeds)
    • Depression and irritability (Parsley, Fennel)
    • Getting pain all over my muscles. (Onion, Radish)
  • All these side effects tend to go away after:
    • A bowel movement
    • Urinating (usually after taking green apple)
    • Sweating (sauna or having sunflower & pumpkin seeds)
    • Inducing saliva by: dry brushing or steam bath or eating grapefruit/ginger/longan

  • The all in one cures and bowel cleaners: Taking any of these tend to have almost all my symptoms disappear for 2 to 8 hours but all induce a strong desire to have bowel movement or a very strong diarrhea.
    • Hot & Sour Soup, Thai Green Curry, Coconut Milk, Lemon Mint Juice, Thai Coconut Soup: Once I consume any of these, I tend to get so much energy after the next bowel movement and my body feels clear and almost I become a normal person with the normal energy level and no gas. Lemon Mint Juice causes me random itching in my body and sometimes first increases the amount of gas. Green Curry and Coconut Milk can cause me severe diarrhea (coconut milk within 1 hour when taken on empty stomach in the morning, green curry can take 6 to 12 hours to have the effect), however, surprisingly, I feel much much better with every bowel movement. I once had a Turkish rice yoghurt soup and had very mild. After taking the thai coconut soup which was full of galangal and red peppers, I felt for the first time to be able to breath without issues and my nostrils felt wide open as I was diagnosed with left elevated nose (something like that)
  • Onion, radish, fennel: immediately getting a clear brain, in 2 hours I tend to become a normal person with very nice mood and energy. But after around 4-6 hours I start getting severe pain on my body muscles all over, mostly in the arms, I feel as I am being crushed. Onion and Radish tend increase the amount of gas and bloating I have enormously though but I take them anyway to have my mind clear. The pain goes away after the next bowel movement, which usually happens after 6-12 hours. The pain is much reduced if I take bell peppers and coconut. After the bowel movement I tend to have better energy and clearer mind for few hours until the symptoms return. Both fennel and the fennel water sold in stores can get rid of my brain fog for awhile but I get strong feeling of depression the next day of taking it.
  • Parsley: immediately getting a clear brain feeling, slowing getting energy back. After around 4 hours I get my brain fog again. Also I noticed whenever I take a large amount of parsley the gas tends to go away for several hours. The major issue with taking it is that on the next day I get depressed and extremely irritable and I have negative thoughts that I may even start fights with people around although I'm generally calm and friendly.
  • Pumpkin and Sunflower Seeds: Within 2 hours of taking it, I tend to get super hyper active and feel the urge to listen to music. I tend to jump and I immediately feel calm and have a clear mind after I start sweating. I also get itch all around my body sometimes, at random places. If I take watermelon juice or dragon fruit with the seeds I noticed I do not get hyper and I do not sweat. I noticed sometimes I get itch in my rectum after consuming them, hence I suspected parasitical infection. Also if I take it at night, I noticed I wake up at night sweating,
  • Garlic: I noticed after taking raw garlic gloves that the gas in my muscles that pops while I walk tend to go away the next day.
  • Grapefruit: This causes saliva which is very relaxing after it. Also, I noticed my gas caused by food I am not usually able to digest like fried food tend to be very minimal.
  • Ginger: This gives me both saliva that is relaxing and clears my mind and enormous energy after around 3-8 hours.
  • Green Apple: I noticed I get little clearer brain and little more energy and hyperactive after around 2-4 hours. I noticed I have to urinate in 2 hours and it is very relaxing for few minutes afterwards and sometimes it becomes hot. I also noticed only get this reaction when taking Green Apple and not any other apple.
  • Custard Apple: Clears my mind.
  • Coconut: removes inflammation in cheeks
  • Bell Pepper: removes inflammation in cheeks and If
  • Dragon Fruit: Gives little clear mind, but relieves the hyperactivity induced from pumpkin seeds.
  • Longan: Gives saliva that’s clear my mind significantly.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar:

Detox Reactions

  • Sauna, Sweating using Sauna Suit: causes sweating which gives me very clear head and skin and improved energy.
  • Steam Shower: causes saliva which greatly gives me clear brain
  • Dry Brushing: causes saliva which greatly gives me clear brain
  • Salt Scrub Shower: Removes all pain from my body
  • Getting Saliva gives clear my brain and slowly gives me some energy back, and is generated when I consume:
    • Ginger Grapefruit Longan Onion

Medical Treatments considered

• Antibiotics: Sometimes it cures all my issues and sometimes it gives me diarrhea. But nevertheless issues all return afterwards.

• Anthelmintic: none useful

• IBS Medications: none useful

• Use of Digestive Enzymes: Clears much of the gas that is generated after meals and does not get me weak after meals. I assume it is working properly but I heard it is not healthy to use them on regular basis so I use grapefruit or ginger instead.

• Probiotics: Started trying them recently and noticed I am able to have cottage cheese and milk without issues.

• Activated Charcoal capsules: no effect on gas at all or even brain fog.

Tests results: Multiple tests were conducted during 2013-2018

General Tests:

  • CRP Highly Sensitive is always high: 2 in one test and in another was 4
  • Creatinine is always found low: 47, 60
  • Prothrombin Time is found high once: 14.3
  • Acetone: +1
  • Amorphous Phosphates +++
  • Neutrophils (%) is found always high: 65, 77
  • Lymphocytes (%) is found low: 18
  • Monocytes (%) is found high in the last test: 9.3
  • Eosinophils (%) was found high margin in the last test: 3
  • RDW was found low margin in one test: 11
  • Potassium level was once in high margin: 5.17
  • Albumin in high margin in two tests conducted a year apart: 5.09 and 5.24
  • Vitamin D was found always very low. Injection was given but after more than a year it was found back to low margin again.

Organ functions:

  • Ultrascan
    • Liver: no issues.
    • Kidney: no issues.

  • Colonoscopy & Endoscopy:
    • Hiatal Hernia was found but is very minor
    • Spasm in Sigmoid Colon
    • Small Internal Hemorrhoids

Infections & Toxins Tests

  • Hpylori: Negative (blood, urine, and breath tests)
  • Parasites: Negative (Stool)
  • Heavy Metals: Oligoscan indicate high amount of cadmium, aluminium and mercury. Was unable to verify the results as none of the labs provide a hair mineral analysis. (Oligoscan) I removed my amalgam fillings safely as instructed by my relative dentist and it is true that after removing them I do look extremely normal like never before and since then my skin is much cleaner.

Summary:
  • What is my diagnosis then?
  • What else to check for?
  • Does anyone face the same reactions to the food and detox activities mentioned above or share similarities in the symptoms and blood/urine/stool results I have?

@nicototikki

Many of your symptoms are similar to the ones I used to have from late 2010-2014, especially regarding the bloating, diarrhea, extreme fatigue, and reactions to certain foods or food groups.

Ever since I eliminated high fructose corn syrup from my diet my severe bloating and daily bouts of diarrhea magically went away.

I've also eliminated nearly all simple sugars, as well as recently eliminating all simple carbs, and I've been very gradually improving over the past 2 years or so.

The only other product I've utilized in the past 3 years is a UVB light, for vitamin D absorption. My vitamin D was extremely low, but now it's just low.

And lastly, I meditate and practice mindfulness daily.

I've been bedridden for the past three and a half years, but I hope I'm able to utilize a wheelchair sometime this year. That's my goal.

Anything containing potato or potato starch gives me your main symptom list, plus a couple more – but it is only that, so it's a very specific food intolerance. It took me three years to figure it out (I didn't even realise potato intolerance was a thing!), but as long as I avoid it, I'm OK. Your list is so much longer, I'm not sure how to go about identifying the triggers...I do hope you find some answers, I know how miserable it is suffering with this on top of ME.

Hi @nicototikki,

I would look into SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) - many of your symptoms fit this picture, as would your response to antibiotics and problematic food groups (you've listed many FODMAPs). I would also be suspicious of reactive hypoglycemia, though this can go hand-in-hand with the SIBO-related issues and might not be a separate issue.

From my own experience SIBO can have quite far-reaching effects, especially when it overlaps/drives things like POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome)/histamine intolerance and gastric dysmotility.

Following a very low-FODMAP & low-histamine diet for a few weeks would be a good indication if this might be part of the problem. From there you could look at hydrogen breath testing for SIBO and courses of Rifaximin & probiotics, combined with longer-term dietary change.

Hope that helps,
Ryan
