Cefuroxime?

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone had heard of this antibiotic being used in relation to Lyme. Perhaps more importantly, the pharmacist here has had difficulty interpreting this prescription from KDM, is that Cefuroxime 500mg twice a day for two months??

Yes, that's 1 pill twice per day. If getting confused by the way it's formatted, it helps to refer to the hydroxoB12 prescription as a reference. That one is 3 injections per week, so that can be used to decode the other dosage timing.

Cefuroxime is in the same class of antibiotics as Ceftriaxone/Rocephine, and is known to be used with Lyme. Cefuroxime is older, but it sounds like it crosses the blood-brain barrier more easily. So it might be nice for getting rid of any spirochetes lurking there, but also might cause more neurological side-effects (headache, motion sickness, etc)?

Yes, I took 500mg twice a day too before my current abx combination. I didn't have any significant side effects except some gut related issues. My subjective impression is that cefuroxime is weaker than tetracyclines and next-generations of cephalosporines.

I've used cefuroxime quite a bit. It's a good alternative to doxy for killing spirochetes because it lacks the sun sensitivity side effect.

Also, it can increase the glutamate transporter which can be a helpful bonus if excessive glutamate is an issue.

Thank you for clarifying, I should have posted here immediately, instead I trusted the pharmacist to sort it out but apparently he has made no progress and still wants to double check with the clinic who are now shut until August 2nd. I guess I could substitute the Cefuroxime for Doxycycline until I can get that delivered.

I'm currently on 500mg cefuroxime twice daily for three months. On itself it's not causing much discomfort, maybe a decreased quality of sleep and an adrenalin surge around 3 - 4 am.
Minocycline 100mg once daily has also been prescribed but i've been unable to tolerate it on itself, when combined with cefuroxime it causes depression and overstimulation. Both have good CNS penetration so it needs more healing before i can tolerate the combo.

Ceftriaxone was a miracle drug for me first 6 weeks of treatment, the second round of ceftriaxone did nothing, now i'm wondering if the cephalosporin-class abx has lost its effectiveness.

I have been taking Cefuroxime in combo with Tetralysal 12 days each month (alternating with other combos for Lyme and Co). I tolerated it well untill last month : had to stop because of severe worsening of symptoms. I don't beleive this was a sudden Herx reaction, as I had been taking for a whole year.

I have been currently off ABX for a month (but continue Nutramedix herbs), and Babesia hit me once again hard this week. Discouraging... had made several courses of Riamet for those nasties.
