Are there any devices to improve vagal tone?

I've tried meditation, humming, gargling, cold water, etc. but I'd really like to try a device of some sort.

Is there anything I can try to help stimulate the vagus nerve that doesn't cost thousands?

There are threads on lower cost devices--try a Google site search and you should find them.

Um, I do have to say....the vagus nerve is EXTREMELY dangerous to mess with
so I'd not want anything that isn't very, very thoroughly tested etc, which would tend to mean they'd likely to be expensive?

Sorry, just the risk of getting some unsafe device and folk like yourself getting hurt gives me the heebie-jeebies :/
