Anyone Else Get Nerve Pain After Eating?

CFS/Fibro sufferer going on 15-20 years now and all of a sudden my nerve pain is triggered after eating certain foods. Looks like its gluten because its usually triggered by bread, sandwiches, pasta, and so on. Really sucks because I have never had this before and used to be able to eat everything and now I guess I'm a celiac.

Now I live in fear of what to eat or not eat and looking up what contains gluten its practically everything. Before this, I would usually have One Big meal towards the middle to end of the day because the fullness helped me feel grounded and it also helped to preserve my energy so as to not spend as much time cooking 3 square meals versus 1. Now I have to snack veggies/fruits for the first half of the day in order not to trigger pain, and then figure out what non triggering meal I can eat later.

Anyone else all of a sudden a celiac?

I’m curious if you had any warning of susceptibility of gluten sensitivity, e.g.test by lab in Texas on specific level? (Doc recommended to assess gut pain.) I did ~6 years back and came back a 10 out of 10 - high risk!

I immediately went ~3 years free of gluten and nightshades. That and 10 grams of omega 3’s daily cleared up gut pain pretty quickly; then back to eating everything. I have painful peripheral neuropathy in feet. Neurologist tested blood yesterday for food/supplement related possible causes. Gluten free is difficult due to ubiquity in yeast, et al. You might try O-3’s at high dose for awhile?

@Stretched. Nope no gluten sensitivity test. My dealing with doctors (about 20 of them now) has been horrendous and useless besides a few CFS docs which I have received some advice from via email. Also I dont experience any gut pain at all ever.

3 years gluten free, fml!!!! I'm finding it almost impossible to go a few days since like you said almost everything has it. Any tips on how you managed? Also yes the nightshades for some reason also giving me trouble, but I have to test it out because my usual sandwiches had tomato on them. Any specific brand Omega 3's you recommend?

@beatsmyth I understand your dilemma since I went through the same thing. I bought a simple illustrated guide
(including paleo diet, easiest).

I really think the O-3’s knocked the pain out. I use Labdoor.com highest rated, ‘Viva’ from Amazon. They’re taste free and have a high good/bad ingredients ratio. I still take 4 grams daily, down from 10 for a couple years. Also,
I have used ‘Omega Via’, also highly rated and on Amazon.

I agree with you on docs - awful, except new neurologist (in his 30’s) who yesterday knew CFS and is to do some nerve testing. He;s a real young Turk and his wait list is 2 months! We’ll see=&

I have no diagnosis for celiac, but I did go 4 months gluten free. I had much less pain from my fibro, I never had the stomach pain.

I will say that about 6 weeks into no wheat, no corn, sugar free and the cravings started to go away. I fell off that because of a difficulty in getting food. My family does not need to eat this way. There are many days that because I cannot grocery shop for myself. I resorted to the delicious sourdough bread that is always plentiful here at my house.

When my family saw me in so much pain a few months ago they helped with having more green, yellow, and red fruits and vegetables on hand. The cravings are not yet gone again, but If I did it before I can do it again.
I feel better eating a few small times a day, but the problem is that I am not hungry for hours after I wake up.

I do take probiotics every day no matter what and that does seem to help with the hidden glutens that are an so many foods.

I still have horrible PEM.. A shower has at times made me crash for days. Nothing has cured that aspect of the illness for me. BCAAs, or branched chain amino acids help shorten the duration time of PEM for me and others.

The probiotics is another thing that helps my digestion and gut health along with Tumeric, long time, coincidentally covered in news article today (either Apple News or Google News).

@Stretched , I tried turmeric and curcumin the insomnia was awful for me!
The instructions say eat with a meal.. I have such a hard time eating in the morning! I want to try it again. Maybe in the summer I can start again when I don't have to be up to get a child off to school.

*edited to add: I really want the anti inflammatory benefits.

I did get a lot of nerve pain and migraines after eating grains.

It took a while to figure out, but it turned out to be the Fortification of the grains causing my inflammatory reaction.

what did you do to counter this? Gluten free diet or other methods?

First I had to figure out that the suspect was excess nitric oxide (NO) I was producing from sibo and other infections, oral, sinus, etc.

Excess nitric oxide is implicated in migraine, neuropathy, etc. It's not the only cause of pain, but I found that any food or supplement that increases NO would cause pain within a couple of hours.

Most flours and grains are fortified with huge amounts of folic acid and iron, which can be inflammatory in excess.

I changed my diet, went keto, so, I'm not having grains or flours, but that may be too extreme for many people.

FWIW - NOW Corp (valid, reliable) makes a product “Gluten Digest”. I don’t know the biochemistry but I would guess it counters the gluten protein per meal. Available at Amazon as is “Dairy Digest.” Both are small bottles.

BTW I believe the Paleo diet is mostly gluten free which makes it a good source booklet for food selection, i.e. all natural foods.
