What interests me is the difference in the "realities" of psychiatric illness vis-a-vis CFS/ME. The latter is not considered "real" but the former is, although neither have any kind of definitive test.

The situation in the US, at least in California, is that people who need psychiatric care instead wander the streets or are in jail.
