A Little lost with my 23andme/Genetic Genie Results. HELP!

Hello Friends!

My husband and I decided to go down the 23andme road since he tested positive for MTHFR C677T through our doctors office. He is always tired, depressed, and suffers from chronic pain (damn drunk driver whom plowed into him). I on the other hand suffer from Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, IC and have basically always been sick (bronchitis) or felt sick. More recently (since my last surgery) I have been loosing my vision/getting blurry vision to the point of not being able to do anything. I am REALLY hoping that changing some things in our household/foods/vitamins will help us feel better!

My yellow and red results are...(no point to add green)

  • From what I understand, the +/- or yellow results are things that may or may not effect me. The +/+ or red ones do effect me and I need to handle to feel better.
  • GSTT1 is an enzyme that I am lacking. This increases my risk of mercury and xenobiotic toxicity. My question is, how do you help an enzyme that you don't have?
  • MTRR A66G mutation will be helped by taking methyl-B12 supplements.
  • NEEDS FOLATE
  • VDR = Need's Vit D supplementation

We have a few over lapping mutations and it seems like some of the mutations either don't have much information (that I can find) or there isn't much difference between the mutations. Would anyone be kind enough to help me understand these more and/or some pointers on which vitamins/supplements to take?
I greatly appreciate it!

+/- for the MTHFR C667T mutation means that you would be affected about 30% I think it was by this mutation as far as your ability to convert folate properly goes, so not a huge amount to make a lot of difference where as ++ Ive read affects peoples folate by about 70%.

That being said thou you have the other MTHFR mutation too.. so with these two it could be more of an issue. There is a good MTHFR website run by an expert in that area I suggest you try to find to see more on what he says on having +- of both of those.

Your children with your husband and you, have a 50% chance of having double copies of the worst kind of MTHFR mutation so should be tested if you have them as if they do have double copies, they should be taking the right supplements.

(it can be esp important for females they could miscarriage during pregnancy etc if not taking precautions for this mutation, baby asprin is sometimes recommended to females with double copy during pregnancy to help prevent miscarriage from this. In my case I have a child with similar to spina bifida due to this mutation affecting my folate, Im ++ of the C667T. I took the wrong form of folate during pregnancy as I didnt know I had this mutation).

I suggest for your husband to make sure he sees a specialist in this field for advice. I saw a dr who had an interest in the MTHFR mutation who put me onto the wrong supplements for it which didnt help. I had to find out throu the MTHFR website that he had me on the wrong ones for over a year. When I found that out I went and a different specialist in this who took me straight off of what the other had me on and put me onto the right ones which did help me a bit.
