You can test all kind of things, but especially dental materials. Maybe this helps: https://www.imd-berlin.de/fileadmin...lisch/122_Basophil_degranulation_test_BDT.pdf

This is really interesting @LiLaLu and I just got a chance to read through it. I am planning to ask the holistic dentist (and also my main doctor and MCAS doctor) if a test like this exists in the US. I am wondering if it is similar to the Clifford Test but it looks much more thorough and also focused on mast cell degranulation to different meds, dyes, allergens, substances, foods, etc.

Have you done this test, LiLaLu, and if so, was it useful for your treatment?

Wow - great you found such a biochem nerd... and I agree you have to review studies. But I found that quite often doctors are getting really upset if you present them the research - even if you approach them extremely carefully.
Yeah doctors get upset if you present them with research. Even though I'm confident I know certain medical specialties better than many specialists themselves (in areas other than just MCAS and past experiences have repeatedly confirmed this), I still first approach doctors as if I am mostly naive. Ive seen well over a dozen doctors and only 2 of them gave me a bad response and that was b/c I acted like a know-it-all. Doctors dont like it when patients self-diagnosis, when you do that they for some reason assume youre crazy or mentally ill. Best approach is to feign naivety and when the doc starts heading down the wrong path or are stuck, you just say "what do you think about 'this' or testing 'that'?" You have to gently guide them so they come to the right conclusion. This could take a few appointments to achieve, but if done right youll have that doc in your corner. Thats how I was able to get so many of my past doctors to order all the tests I asked for when I was trying to figure out what was going on with me. Once theyre in your corner then you could present them with research if you really want.

I do notice this, too. Do you rotate the things your eating, so that your body does not have the chance to build up or are you so limited food wise, that you cannot rotate? I am kind of stuck with only very few foods and mostly elemental diet (yummy - not) and after a time I even started to reacting to the elemental diet and had to switch formulas.
The only foods I dont react to at all are lean chicken breast and non-fortified white rice, all boiled with distilled water as I react to anything that isnt pure water. At one point, I used to walk through the grocery store and experiment with everything to see what I can have and the conclusion I was forced to accept was that I couldnt have any of it. As my condition worsened, I could no longer eat my safe foods (despite still not having reactions to them) b/c my allergies were constantly triggered by everything all the time making my insides in constant turmoil so I had no appetite and force-feeding myself resulted in nausea and diarrhea.

But these days, I dont rotate food. I'm still reactive, but I have enough control over it that I can usually tolerate it. I pretty much eat the same thing everyday, not b/c of MCAS but b/c Im a simple guy and see having a more diverse diet as wasted effort with little-to-no benefit. Pretty much just meat, bread and mayo and the occasional burger at a relatively clean restaurant nearby.

Yeah elemental diet never really made any sense to me. Youre still eating sugar and that feeds dysbiotic bacteria and if youre reactive to everything then youll of course react to that. Thats why I never tried it.

Re: dental work, at this point, it would be impossible to know what I would react to without getting the materials and doing some kind of skin patch test (before things are drilled into my mouth/gums :jaw-drop:). I am pretty sure that composite fillings are not an option for me b/c they are all "tooth colored" and contain yellow dyes. I think the porcelain fillings (which are dye-free) are my best option.

I don't think I am willing to risk it with the dental ozone (from what I have read) b/c it is contraindicated in autoimmunity. I just need to call the holistic dentist's office back and set up a time to go pick up the Clifford Test kit and make an appt for the blood draw with Quest. I am just dreading the entire thing to be honest.
Same here with the dread. As good as I think Im taking care of my teeth I really ought to get a check up. Losing my teeth would be a nightmare.

It is a precaution (and I have no symptoms) but my mom died of colon cancer last year and all of her doctors (and all of my doctors) said that I need to do it.
That sounds like a good idea. I'll probably have to do that at some point at least as a precaution.

Thank you for this info and I just wrote it down so I can Google it. I had not heard of the BDT test. Is it something that specifically relates to dental work (to figure out what you are reactive to like the Clifford Test)? I wasn't sure if I understood? (Sorry we are going off-track, Blake )
Its all good, I dont mind.
