10MG Loratadine - Spaced Out/Short Term Memory Issue. What does this mean?

Hi, Ive recently been seeing an ME specialist in the UK after having not got any better after 7 years, and he said I may have had M.E at some point, but now he thinks I have ongoing post-viral fatigue and leaky gut, despite my intolerance to pretty much all foods that contain even a whiff of sugar, especially alcohol which makes me severly ill for months after consuming (a classic M.E symptom). Im ok with his diagnosis as long as he is willing to try me on some meds, and he is. He has prescibed me Acyclovir hoping that that tackles the PVF, and he has prescibed 10Mg of the anti-histamine Loratadine. Ive no noticeble side effects yet from the Acyclovir, but if i take the Loratadine I get quite spaced out and start to forget small things - like how many of my daily pills i've taken, whether ive got my keys when i leave the house, or forgetting to turnt he oven off etc. Small things like that. Ive only take then Loratadine twice because the symptoms are uweird, but maybe this is telltale sign of something specific..does anyone here know? Should i persevere with taking it? I will see him again in 2 months, but because there is a fee for consultation i was wondering if my experience chimes with anyone's here, and if does then perhaps could clarify what these Laratadine induced symptoms may mean.
Thanks
G

I don't know what your experience might mean, but for some strange reason, every time I take antihistamines I get sudden, strong, anxiety out-of-the-blue. And I don't normally have anxiety...

i have had very strange effects from anti-histamines. Years ago Benadryl gave me a terrifying panic attack, but more recently it gave me 4 of my best days i've had in a long while from just one pill. Then the next time i took it it just made me ridiculously sleepy instead. Other 2nd generation antihistamines also seem to make me sleepy and depressed the day after taking them. Some of them (ie benadryl) mess with your cholinergic receptors, But in my opinion, just messing with your histamines in general might have adverse affects - we need histamine for our immune system to function, and our bodies and brains are so sensitive any change can set us off balance so to speak.

Maybe you could look into the DAO enzyme - caffeine blocks the enzyme and I found cutting out caffeine reduced my histamine issues, presumably because my DAO was working better.

On another note i'm not sure what he means by you HAD ME and now you have PVF, seems like he lacks some basic understanding there. PVF can turn into ME, if you are having long term PVF that is essentially what ME is, aslong as you have PEM then you have ME.

A micro dose of loratadine gives me a significant breathing problem. Also, a liquid cetirizine product had the same effect.

On the other hand, I have no trouble with fexofenadine, benadryl, or chlortabs.

The difference may be related to my MCAS.

Was looking at loratadine as a possible treatment of Lyme but I like to research drugs before I take them--even OTCs. Lots of stories on this site: https://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=19658&name=CLARITIN
of people having problems with this drug. (1 is lowest ratings; 5 is best)

I still took a quarter of one but got very pins and needles tingly and a bit hyper which I could still feel 24 hours later.

I was also a bit confused by the doctors diagnosis, but he came as one of a few highly recommended doctors in the UK mentioned on this forum - i wont mention his name for reasons of discretion. But yeah, i get PEM and am highly intolerant to alcohol and certain food (basically all sugars) as well as develop new intolerances from time to time owing to my expsoure them during a very bad patch (i became intolerant to black tea because i had my ears pierced and that triggered a massiuve auto-immune reponse (large cortisol production) - and i happened to be drinking tea at the time, so i guess my nervous system associated the tea with the trauma.

Ill look more into the DAO enzyme, id not heard of it before. thanks

ive never needed to take an anti-histamines before, but was reocmmended for leaky gut. My reaction was quite pronounced, very similar in fact to my reaction to taking S. Boulaardi (Jarrow Formulas) - spaced out feeling. Currently looking into BPC-157, someone on reddit mentioned it for leaky gut.
