Logic behind long intake

Hey

as I am taking some supplements recommended on PR as "cellular energy boosters" without any noticeable effect, I am wondering about the often given advise to take for example d-ribose or vitamins a few weeks or months before one decides it's not effective and stop taking it.

But my question is: Where is the logic behind that advise? If we have a problem in energy production, lets say in ATP metabolism, then shouldn't a certain supplement help right from the beginning or after a few days?
I'm a moderate case and I know I can't expect too much, but I think I should see any advantage of a supplement in the first days I try it?!?

Thank you and all the best!
