    I'm sure that the 10 minute consult and not knowing their patients are contributing factors, but I think that an over reliance on lab tests, instead of listening to and trusting what their patients say, is a bigger cause. Problems that don't show up in routine labs are apt to be missed, and symptoms that patients report are apt to be dismissed. Anything that doesn't show up in the lab report is assumed to be psychological.

    I think medical schools should teach classes in trusting your patient and using William Osler's approach: "Listen to your patient, he is telling you the diagnosis."
