    Does anyone recognise this reference?

I'm surprised his name doesn't ring a bell. He's written a lot. And I agree. Sex is a good thing, not something I actively want to avoid. It would be laughable if it wasn't so sad

This is him. What a charmer. Surprise, surprise, he's a psychiatrist specialising in psychosomatic research. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Christopher_Bass2/publications

    Does anyone recognise this reference?

Cheshire I think that might well be it. I'm sure it was someone like Atos who wrote it and that seems really familiar. Thank you. It stuck out at the time that a secondary gain might be getting to avoid sex. It seemed so outrageous. It *is* outrageous. Thank you everyone for your help.

    Does anyone recognise this reference?

Thank you. The thing is as far as I recall it was in a report which people wouldn't have expected to be read very widely. So I can see someone being a bit more blunt than they might have been in a newspaper, for example. This is driving me crazy. I'm sure I read it. I wish I'd made more effort...

    Does anyone recognise this reference?

Years ago, I think at the time of the Welfare Reform Bill going through, I'm sure I read something by a psychiatrist about how M.E gets one out of chores such as sex or housework (!). I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it or find it online. I thought it might have been Wesseley and...

    ME/CFS Grand Challenge (MEGA)

I imagine they believe in their theories. So really, to them you could find something in a blood test in M.E and they'll STILL be arguing that there's also a psychosomatic element and asking why people are stigmatising those with mental illnesses by arguing so vociferously against that. Now at...

    ME/CFS Grand Challenge (MEGA)

I think there is zero chance of ever getting any apology from White, Crawley and Collin. Don't hold your breath. Cognitive dissonance and all that.

    ME/CFS Grand Challenge (MEGA)

I think the really scary people aren't going to get a look in, to be honest. The big hitters are going to be the proper scientists - you know, the ones who rely on actual evidence ;) I suspect they would be polite to anything a psychiatrist says but not give it much credence (I'm talking with...

US: Send a Forgotten Plague DVD to your Congressman/woman

Does this mean that if I buy one, it will go to a random Congressman - I'm in the UK but would like to buy a copy. I want to know it will end up with someone who doesn't already have one allocated.

Esther Crawley Paediatric Prevalence Study Funded by Action for ME

Wouldn't a 'right-thinking person' be horrified by the SMILE trial?

Esther Crawley Paediatric Prevalence Study Funded by Action for ME

I know it's long, but I've written this on AfME's fb page. Am publishing it elsewhere in case it gets deleted and they do need to answer the questions within. Permission is given to re-post it. Dear Sonya, I was heartened to read your announcement regarding the forthcoming research Action for...

What is the last paper that surveyed children with M.E?

The blog you linked to Jaime is fantastic, incidentally. Absolutely shows you how ridiculous the concept is.

"Suzanne O'Sullivan's It's All in Your Head wins Wellcome Book Prize 2016"

Thank you! I guess I mean that if it's true that a patient has suffered a terrible trauma and their body converts their emotional distress into a seizure, let's say, and then they have good quality therapy from a trained psychologist - surely that should be enough to reduce their symptoms. And...

"Suzanne O'Sullivan's It's All in Your Head wins Wellcome Book Prize 2016"

Hello, I'm new to the thread, but I've been browsing the forum for ages. I am really interested in psycho-somatic illness. It fascinates me and I'd really like to know if there has ever been any peer-reviewed research which suggests it's real. I don't mean 'minor' things like stress headaches...

Send your shoes to protest virtually for you in #MEAction's Millions Missing campaign!

I'm in the UK, but I just created an account on the US amazon and ordered a pair of shoes. Absolutely straight forward and fine - the only issue was they want a phone number for the delivery address and I don't have one so I just put mine in. But hopefully that's a formality because the delivery...
