Yet another discovery of a previously-unknown organ (body part?), and this is one which could play a role in ME. Immune activation, from viral infections or other causes, could cause changes in this defensive layer of the brain, maintaining abnormal glial activity. This could possibly be part of the feedback loop that keeps us in the ME state ... and no one has checked that possibility yet, since no one knew that it existed.
