    Hey everyone

This post is on behalf of my Mum. She's had CFS since 2002 and was also recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. She has a mouth full of mercury amalgam fillings (like, more fillings than teeth!) and is in the process of getting them removed.

My feeling is that a lot of her symptoms are due to metal toxicity, as they are very similar to mine, and I'm desperate to help her.

Maybe a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a decent functional/orthomolecular Dr in the south east area, London/Brighton, specialising in metal detox (and/or maybe osteo issues?) who can give me and my mum some support?

    Thanks :)

Wow be careful. Amalgam removal .. could expose her to a lot if Mercury vapors ,

Try the Mercury detox facebook group or the Andy Cutler fb grp

It's great that you are helping your Mum. It may pay though not to put all your eggs in the one baskets and consider that her CFS may be caused by other things and that going through the expense, pain and stress of dental treatment may not be the best thing for her. I relapsed very badly after simple dental treatment for years.

I'd hate to see someone go through having all their amalgams removed and then be worse off afterwards (and I know patients who have been)

She's been sick for a few years now. It is the Osteo that is spurring you now? or have you developed similar symptoms?

Maybe before heading into that one area try and get the opinion of a Dr who treats people with CFS and ME to see if your mother is well enough to contemplate this course of action and if they feel it is warranted?

We sadly, have very few doctors in the UK who can help though. One alternative would be to try and get an appointment with Dr William Wier in London, Professor Brostoff or see if someone like Dr Enlander would do a Skype from the USA or when he comes to England. I don't think that Dr Myhill is currently accepting new patients.

Used to have a great dentist in London who removed amalgams but sadly she has gone now.

    Hope this helps.

Research on the connection between mercury amalgams and ME/CFS has found no link:

I have to admit that I had my mercury amalgams removed when I first started to get ME/CFS symptoms, around 10 years ago, after catching a respiratory virus. Just really as a precaution. And I also stopped eating canned tuna fish, except very occasionally, as tuna can give you more exposure to mercury that your dental fillings.

However, after reading ME/CFS forums for years, I have never come across anyone who improved symptomatically after amalgam removal. Though there are some anecdotal reports (see this forum poll) of improvements after a mercury chelation protocol (you would need your amalgams removed before you did this).
