On July 22, 2010 the state of Nevada, and all of us at WPI, lost a great leader, advocate and friend with the unexpected and tragic death of former Governor Kenny C. Guinn. Governor Guinn was a tireless and fierce supporter of education and access to healthcare, as well as one of the great statesmen in Nevada history. He knew no political affiliation, social class or skin color when it came to seeing a problem and rolling up his sleeves to fix it. His leadership, example and friendship will be missed by all who knew him.
In 2008 WPI honored Governor Guinn and his wife Dema at our I Hope You Dance Gala for their
leadership and support in making the construction of our new building possible. The Kenny and Dema Guinn Patient Resource Center will be located in the new WPI building, and is a fitting tribute to two people who dedicated so much of their public service to helping secure access to healthcare and education for all the people of Nevada.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dema, sons Jeff and Steve, and their wives and children at this most difficult time. Their husband, father and grandfather touched countless lives and left a legacy of which they can all be proud.
