What doctors with a specialist interest in ME/CFS do online consultations?

Hi Tom,

I was wondering if you know any excellent doctors/consultants in the US or elsewhere that would take patients from overseas and do online consultations. I thought it might be a good time to arrange an appointment as they may be more open to doing an online consultation due to covid.

I've recently been reading 'Reviving the Broken Marionette' by Maija Haavisto and I was particularly impressed by the likes of Dr Jay Goldstein. Not sure if there's anyone in his league still practicing. There are so many medications to try (as in this book for example) that it's hard to know where to start which is why it would be very helpful to get an expert opinion.

Not sure which ME/CFS specialists might offer online consultations, but here is a world map of ME/CFS doctors, if that helps.

Off the top of my head, Dr Paul Worthley in Brighton UK offers telephone consultations.
I'm having a look at the website now and might consider this option. I'm in France, and I feel like I've tried just about everything here, to no avail of course, because life is just like that lol. I tried a few doctors in the US before, a couple of functional medicine types and then one "serious" doctor but he was really expensive, although he was offering strong options rather than just the usual bland comments on how to improve in my condition (but we never quite put the finger on the root cause).

I'd be really interested in a few different options before committing. I don't care where they're located, money isn't an immediate concern either, just as long as they know their stuff and can do Skype/phone consultations.

Your nearest ME/CFS doctor of international renown would be Dr Kenny De Meirleir in Brussels.
yeah. But I've heard so much bad stuff about him over the years, I'm not ready to put myself through a 10 year wait list and then be disappointed by how commercial he is. That's what most critics say about him now.

I think the controversial area of KDM's treatment is the use of high dose antibiotics. While some ME/CFS patients have benefitted from this, there are some reports of patients being made permanently worse. But patients can decline this antibiotic treatment.

Like many ME/CFS patients themselves, KDM seems to be someone who tinkers with various treatment ideas, and may prescribe multiple treatments at the same time. Personally I would prefer that to a ME/CFS specialist who offers you nothing, like some UK ME/CFS specialists.

This PR member did well on multiple treatments from KDM.

If I remember correctly, KDM's fees are quite low, but he tends to order around €2000 in tests, which is expensive.

checking out every post right now. Interesting read thanks for the link.
But yeah, all the negative reviews I've read, the waiting lists I believe are still ridiculous these days... I wouldn't be happy about spending the 2K for tests either, but, I'm contemplating trying this guy a bit more now. Got tempted plenty of times in past years but never did it.
