He came to London before the first worldwar?

He must be over a 100 years old then.
I think it was supposed to be a joke. What he doesn't realise is that this joke was only offered up to him by his subconscious brain because of his deep fear of the war that is about to start tomorrow. In which I presume he'll be portraying himself as the brave British tommy battling away in the trenches against all the odds. Guess who we're going to be portrayed as?

It almost doesn't matter if Regius Professor Sir Simon was involved with pressuring JHP or not. The PACE boil is about to be lanced, and he will certainly end up covered with puss.

Good luck cleaning up the mess, Sir Simon. I'd play you a tune on my tiny violin, if I had the strength.

I doubt the publication will make a damned bit of difference. Wessely probably has nothing to worry about.
I think it might. The most important difference of all that it could make, would be to encourage and fortify other people and organisations to step out into the light and publicly speak their truths as well, to in turn encourage and fortify others. The snowball effect, avalanche effect, whatever.

It most certainly will. To have peer reviewed criticism of the PACE trial published in a journal means we are no longer militant patients. It means our concerns have been deemed scientifically valid.

It may not change anything overnight but it adds to an increasing amount of questions for the PACE authors to answer. The more controversy around PACE the better, sooner or later funding bodies will shy away, not wanting any association with these people.

It also adds a lot of weight to people who campaign for the removal of CBT and GET as treatments for ME.

Is there any way you can find out? Could you contact Sage publications and ask?
I suspect they would be much too scared to let on, given the power this person (currently at least) wields. Maybe something that a very good bit of investigative journalism might uncover in due course. And me with my suspicious mind, I would not be surprised if the person might even be someone outside the immediate PACE circle, but who might nonetheless have strong reasons for the status quo to remain. If PACE crumbles, then the whole social welfare strategy currently applied to ME sufferers starts to crumble - there are vast sums of public money and political reputations at stake here.

Yes. I just read an interview with a Danish ''scientist'' who claimed that the criticism of PACE could not possible be correct because they were released on online blogs, and not in published journals. This criticism was from a couple of months ago, I think I will be reaching out to the editor behind the piece tomorrow to inform her that now, the criticism has indeed found its way to a peer-reviewed journal. Will be interesting how the CBT / GET scientist responds this time :)

I think people underestimate how blind people are to authority when it comes to science. The entire reason this CBT / GET charade could go on for so long was because the PACE authors were able to have their flawed study / studies published in a peer-reviewed and once respected scientific journal. It didn't matter that the study should already have been considered fundamentally flawed due to being unblinded and based solely on subjective criteria when the treatment in question was trying to alter illness perceptions. The authors behind the trial claimed patient recovery and success, and that was all people ever saw.

I like the sound of that, not least because it rings true.

I think I may have to speak in riddles.
I have discovered a bit more about the sequence of events.
James Coyne's wording may have put me slightly off the scent (slightly).
Maybe we could say it was probably the Wizard of Oz, and Toto is tugging at the curtain this very minute.
