Does anyone experience discoloration of the tongue or other tongue and mouth symptoms such as thrush, mouth sores or what not? (Other than crimson crescents, that is)
Some of the doctors that I see, feel it may be related to either herpes viruses or enteroviruses, as they see a lot of it in their patients. I do have it. It has improved with treatment. My daughter also has it and she is very healthy.

is this -geographical tongue- a common symptom in CFS ? Was this one of your first symptoms with CFS ? With me, it was my first symptom... It might explain what is going on in China.
Oh i have another tongue issue id like to throw in if you don't mind I've got a swollen tongue. Anyone knows what that is? My thyroid hormones are normal...
OS~ You very well could have your teeth imprinted on the lateral edges of your tongue. I have this too. That is because my tongue rests more in the middle of my mouth, rather than up on the roof of my mouth. It is not a problem...it is what it is.
I did not pay attention to my tongue in the beginning of my illness. My tongue has never hurt me, so I never looked at it. Lots of people who are totally healthy have geographic tongue (including my daughter). The doctors I see (who treat CFS) do notice it in their patients. There has never been a correlation or a study done to my knowledge about CFS and geographic tongue.

Me too, a lot of the time. My tongue fills my mouth. It's not just that the edges become scalloped, but my whole tongue is fat. It's not normal for me or my tongue.
I think in me it's related to detox issues. I think my doctor mentioned something about my lymph not moving. He started to recommend someone to see about it, but then we were on to other topics.
It got a little better a month ago, and now it's back.
So glad there is a post on this. I have, around my one tooth, bleeding gums and possibly a cold sore. My mouth is killing me. I am not sure if I go to a dentist or ride it out. But, it's been going on for about a week and I am in pain BAD. I seriously feel like I am falling apart. My back is killing me, I can't sleep and now this. SORRY, but I am mad.

lol!! Yes that's how I feel. I think mine is related to detox too, many of my sympoms seem to scream "poisoned!!".
Anyway when I found the magic cure, I'll let you know!!
Until then ....

Hi Timaca, the reason I mentioned this was because every mouth specialist I went to, told me that my tongue was swollen(because of the prints), besides the GT. I took that as not really normal presentation of the tongue...
I have terrible problems with my tongue -- swelling, very painful red lesions and also white lesions from thrush. Sometimes I bite my tongue when I am chewing and then I invariably get a bacterial infection.
My dentist told me I have "Hairy Leukoplakia" on the sides of my tongue and just plain Leukoplakia on my cheeks and tongue. Hairy Leukoplakia is white, leathery lesions with what looks like broken red capillaries or tiny red vertical strings thruout the lesion.
I looked it up on the Internet and it said that it is thought to be the result of chronic Epstein Barr infection. When people who are HIV positive get hairy leukoplakia, it is a sign that they have advanced to AIDS.
Although my mother has a geographic tongue she has never complained about discomfort. However my geographic tongue which I have had forever, started to really cause me trouble in the early 2000's. This was when the burning, 'feeling' swollen and being constantly aware of my tongue started. Also at this time the white circles with the red centres on my tongue moved around many times per day - these were really terribly aggravating.
My ME/Fibromyalgia symptoms started in earnest on 3rd August 2007 after I had confirmed Mycoplasma Pn. infection in 2005 & 2006 and again in 2008.
My tongue seems a bit better the past few months though, with just occasional burning days!
This is interesting (as are all the other posts re geographic tongue as well).
I have had this symptom on and off for years - it definitely gets worse under stress or when I'm generally run down, but I have noticed a definite improvement over the past few months. One of the changes I've made to my diet is drastic reduction of wheat. (I have also been resting, off work, pacing, taking supplements, etc.)
Sore tongue, swollen tongue and geog. tongue can all be caused by lack of B vitamins, especially B6 if I remember rightly. Since we all need lots of that for methylation, I think it is easy for us to become deficient in it.
I have geographic tongue. Although it's supposedly harmless, I suspect it holds some indications of overall health and perhaps underlying deficiencies/immune problems as well. Seems like it's a common thing to have for PWCs?
My tongue gets sore from time to time, but I'm taking plenty of b vitamins. It's true I'm not taking a high dose of B12, but I'm not sure I have any other symptoms people describe for B12 deficiency. I never have sores inside my mouth. Just sore tongue. Either on the tip or sides or both.
I have tooth imprints on a reddish tongue. It doesn't bother me much, but my CFS doc went so far as to take a picture of it. He says he sees it on many of his patients.
