What type of Mg do you take?
I don't know the solution to it, but the probable cause is too much purines. What helped me so far was Mg oxide. But then again I never touched Mfolate again![]()
Mg-Glycinate

@sreganAs always, three steps forward and two steps back is better than nothin'.![]()
Could be. Kick-starting your metabolic processes frequently provokes the body into some kind of "clean out".Wondering if I might have chelated some metals during the SMP?
From your feedback I'm betting it did do you some long-term good. But your bod is telling you to back off so just go with that.Did the SMP benefit me in any long term way? If I can "come down" with the Niacin and see if I generally feel any better then maybe I can say yes?
Some time ago I read this riddle about +/+MAO-A and it certainly rung a bell for me:Mg-Glycinate
you need to be careful about taking mag glycinate and 5-htp
Do you take iodine on a daily basis? For how long have you taken it? How much do you take now?One notable thing this happened with is iodine.

I know, I have no intention to take iodine soonI don't take it, used to a long time ago. Careful about thyroid stimulants now.
Izzy, iodine was the first supplement I purposefully took after really running myself into the ground that I could tell did me a whole lot of lasting good. I consider it a foundation supplement of my current health. I've always taken some supplements and dabbled around in alt nutritional methods, but iodine is the first thing that ever had a noticeable and dramatic effect...probably because my health had deteriorated so badly in the first place.Do you take iodine on a daily basis? I also think it may have had a somewhat deleterious effect on my gut flora
Yes.be careful taking anything every single day, unless you're keeping really close tabs on side effects.
Yes.
I still love iodine but like everything, it should be used with discretion and moderation.
I do keep an eye on my fingernails. Thumb nails in particular. Mine develop horizontal ridges as they cycle in and out of strong and weak growth. I associate the weak growth with folate deficiency. Unfortunately, they are not a good immediate indicator since it seems the ridging only becomes visible weeks after the growth ( or lack of growth ) actually took place. Before I started Freddd's protocol, I was taking some folic acid supplememts and the ridging got very bad. These days it's mostly not noticeable. Anyway, I do find that the thicker nail growth is also faster.
I don't claim it's a solution, but there was a great deal of improvement after I switched to a low dose B-complex ( nature made bcomplex w/ vit c ) and bumped the methylfolate to 8 to 10 mg. I was previously taking Pure encapsulation B complex and about 4mg methylfolate. I tend to believe that the high doses of B1, B2, and maybe B3 were driving much of the folate deficiency as Freddd has posted. My angular chelitis also largely disappeared at the same time my nails got better. If anyone's solved this one, please tell me what you think did it.

@sregan At the end of the day, do you think your time doing Freddd's protocol had any benefit? Just wondering what your view of it is now that you've been stopped for a while.
It is cholagogue, which helps with constipation. It can also be a goitrogen. Is the artichoke for diarrhea or constipation?
