Out if no where I was asked for a chest x ray. Only had my abdomen and brain MRI . Found nothing and blood test. For last year I thought must be CFS. My lung specialist looked at my results and immediately made me get more chest x Ray's

The radiologist at the hospital and lung specialist told me this is very serious and could be cancer. My symptom's are the result of this thing. Tommorow morning I got for a CT scan to figure out if it's cancer or bacterial infection. Either way I'm scared.

@HABS93 I am not sure if we have talked before on PR but I was hoping you could tell me what your main symptoms are. The reason I am asking is very important and I am wondering (if you do have lung cancer) if it is due to a paraneoplastic syndrome? You are much younger than someone who would normally get lung cancer and it really makes me wonder if you have a calcium channel autoantibody (either the N-type or the P/Q type) which often correlates with LEMS (Lambert Eaton Syndrome) and Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).

If it turns out that you have lung cancer, can you please ask your doctor to run a special blood panel from the Mayo Clinic's Lab called "PAVAL" that checks for paraneoplastic autoantibodies? It is very possible that this is at the core of your symptoms and you do not have ME/CFS (although I do not know what your symptoms are which is why I am asking).

It is also very possible that you do not have lung cancer at all and they are seeing some kind of infection or scar tissue/fibrosis on the x-ray. I am hoping that they are doing a high resolution CT scan of your lungs. I went through this and I have the calcium channel autoantibody and did lung cat scans for three years (but they were negative for cancer in my case).

This is really important and please PM me and I promise to answer if I can be of further help. Sadly, many doctors do not know about this stuff.

Hi, @HABS93,

First of all, my heart goes out to you.

I don't know what your collective symptoms are, but during your follow up appointment to discuss CT scan results, I strongly urge you to directly ask the doctor if it could be Sarcoidosis.

On an x-ray, Sarcoidosis can be mistaken for pneumonia or lung cancer. It is confirmed by biopsy of affected tissue.

This is a rare disease that most doctors are not familiar with. It is commonly found in the lungs, but can also be systemic. Neurosarcoidosis could mimic ME.

Please keep us posted!

Warm regards,
Z

I did not know that at all. I will ask my lung specialist to look into that. Thank you so much! Monday is when I discuss my CT scan what to do after

Hi, @HABS93,

Based on my experience, I just want to mention that your doctor may not be able to give you a definitive diagnosis on Monday. Hopefully they will present you with a short list of potential diagnoses and a clear plan for further workup. So the uncertainty may go on for a little bit longer ...

I've undergone a bronchoscopy, and it was so much better/easier than described to me. If that comes up as a possible next step for you, pls feel free to ask me about it.

I'm hoping you have a close friend or family member to support you at this appt. In any case, please know that you'll be in my thoughts on Monday. Truly. I'm not just saying that!

Warmly,
Z

Feels like we are all going through a journey only the toughest people can live through.

Well said, and thank you. You always find ways to bolster us as well, while we want to bolster you.
The mutual bolstering is one of the ways we get through it.

Btw, i have a friend who needed to have his lungs cleaned out of something in there, which was then biopsied and NOT cancerous, so there are numerous possibilities.
