UK ME CFS Biobank

-- Our collaborating researchers: Dr Jackie Cliff --

Dr Jackie Cliff is an Assistant Professor in Immunology, and our Laboratory Research Lead at The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Jackie has collaborated with us on our main NIH-funded grant, and also works on a connected subsidiary grant using UKMEB samples. Her expertise in immunology and genetic expression has been a great asset to the team and has yielded some promising results, for publication in 2018.


We have recently recruited 60 more participants for her subsidiary grant (also funded by the NIH), which will enable comprehensive assessments of cases of ME/CFS, using saliva and urine samples, at regular monthly intervals. This greatly enhances the chances of a breakthrough in the understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease.

Biobank samples received by Dr Karl Morten

The UKMEB is delighted to announce that this week it delivered a batch of samples to Dr Karl Morten PhD, senior researcher and laboratory manager at the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University.

This sample release represents the culmination of a year’s fundraising and planning, began by the ME Association in their Christmas appeal last year.http://cureme.lshtm.ac.uk/biobank-samples-received-dr-karl-morten/

Dr Morten’s research will use mass spectrometry techniques (among others) to investigate metabolites, chemical clues that have been left behind after metabolism in the cells of people with ME.

The UKMEB is delighted to have partnered with Dr Morten, Oxford University and the MEA in making this exciting new study a reality.

UPDATE November 2017
CureME’s multi-year study into the biomarkers of ME/CFS has been renewed by the US National Institutes of Health for a further four years. This grant enables some further recruiting to the biobank, both to further our research at LSHTM and to provide samples for translational research at other institutions.

Recruiting for our Phase 2 study will be beginning in early 2018; to register your interest, please contact us.
