I would never ever drink tap water, or use it for brushing teeth or doing a net pot. Bottled water is an environmental catastrophe.........quite besides the BPA's, PET's and whatnot that may be leached into the bottled water. I wouldn't place any bets on it that it is less hazardous than the local water supply. It is 'dead' water in my view.

Ludicrous really that countries which supposedly should have the cleanest water supplies are starting to consume mega quantities of the stuff. I agree though that for certain uses, such as CPAP, to boil tap water may be a sensible idea.

GOOD BOTTLED WATER VS. BAD BAD BOTTLED WATER

When I used to buy bottled water, before I had my r.o. filter installed in my house, it was from a WATER STORE, where they sell reverse osmosis filtered water in large quantities. I used my own 5 gallon GLASS bottles, so no BPAs. This is a much better option to bottled water in plastic bottles, which is often highly questionable.

Most water in the US is both chlorinated and fluoridated, (whereas only 2% of Europeans are subjected to fluoridated water.) Besides the chlorine and fluoride, there are thousands of other endocrine disrupting and cancer causing chemicals in our water, which make tap water HIGHLY risky to drink.

"People don't understand that just because water is technically legal, it can still present health risks," said Pankaj Parekh, director of water quality for the City of Los Angeles.

Even though more than 60,000 chemicals are used in the United States each year and most have never been tested for human safety, the Safe Water Drinking Act regulates only 91 different toxins. Many of these are regulations have not been updated since the 1980s or even since the law was first passed in 1974. The law does not take into account newer findings that certain chemicals can be more toxic in combination than separately. To top it off, not a single chemical has been added to the law since 2000."

Tap water does indeed pose risks, including low levels of chlorine based substances as gas from hot showers. However, tap water also contains lots of minerals. Highly filtered water has reduced mineral content. I boil all my water - I don't drink from the tap directly. This removes some of the impurities. Reverse osmosis is nice, but still removes minerals and as I live in a rented unit I cannot instal one. Bye, Alex
