Hi everyone,

One of my PEM symptoms is nasal/sinus infection. A few weeks ago I saw an ENT specialist and he confirmed a staph infection. This is the same infection I keep getting in the same spot all the years I have had ME.

It sometimes get a very sore throat and intense heat with it. I am now treating it with saline nasal washes which is helping. Not completely gone yet, but hoping it will settle right down again soon.

I wonder how many other MEs get the nasal/sinus induced infection with PEM. Do you get the staph infections also?

I can't work out what it is about PEM that does this. Obviously there is immune system involvement in some of the ME pathway? Or is there another process that can cause this immune-like behaviour?

I get sinus infections every time I crash. I believe mine is strep. I rarely go to the doctor for it. But recently I was sick for close to 8 weeks so went to the doctor finally after trying all my usual remedies (andrographis, echinacea), he thought it was an allergy but I know it's an infection. He reluctantly gave me Z-pack, it helped a little but then came right back. Then I took colloidal silver and finally kicked it, until the next time.

I don't get a sore throat with it, but slight nasal congestion and often severe fatigue. I'm assuming it has to do with immune impairment. And there are so many red flags connecting immune involvement with ME/CFS, I'm not surprised by this occurring.

Generally andrographis and echinacea are enough to knock it down, until I crash again.

As a child i used to get chronic sinus infections about three to four times a year. Now they don't turn into "infections" anymore. I always have a sore throat and get sick all the time but somehow it is different from before. Still get sinus pressure and pain though.

Yes. The crash when happens when PEM happens I believe drops the immune system and then hence the other issues we have then flare more.

Are you aware that the staph there in ME/CFS is usually a toxin producing staph and not the common kind most people get. Research on this was done here in Australia at Newcastle University Hence you should have this treated. Did your doctor get you tested for what antibodics the staph you carry is susceptable to? When my ME/CFS specialist sent my blood to specialised lab to have my staph tested it was found that it was immune to most antibodics.. I think it was something like 9 out of the 11 it got tested against were not suitable to treat the one I had.

As my specialist told me even with using one Staph is suceptable too it can still be hard to get rid of, I also took at the same time herbal meds which have strong antibacterial qualities at the same time I was on the correct anti-biotic for it and I did manage to get rid of it and havent had any issues with that since.

I'd had a bad time with Staph infectations and didnt just have it within my nose also had had multiple past courses of antibiotics due to getting Staph in a couple of places in my leg and had it there for months.

There has also been a study done somewhere else in which they did some kind of vaccination against the staph and for some this has been some help. You may want to read https://www.s4me.info/threads/staphylococcus-toxoid-vaccine-treatment.5529/

My nose and throat are sore most of the time in the past year. I keep getting Bronchitis when I push the least bit too hard. I am going to send my husband to the health food store for the colloidal silver right now. I have been fighting a bad cough and sinus for three days now.

This was of course after two weekends of house guests...
