Paul Cheney's Coma/Seizure CFS Hypothesis & Klonopin Treatment

A few decades ago Dr. Paul Cheney posted a video lecture on the web in which he drew a horizontal line representing an axis between two neurological states: "seizure" and "coma" something like this:

Seizure -------------------------+------------------------------- Coma

His hypothesis was that CFS was caused by a shift toward the seizure end of the axis, and that a goal of treatment was to shift the patient toward the coma end of the axis via administration of the drug Klonopin.

That video seems to have long since vanished from the web. Does anyone know where it can be obtained?

Hello @Sleepless in Seattle.....I'm also sleepless, but in Dallas, Tx. Fun, isn't it?

I'll tell you that I have two neurological conditions (that I've had surgery for) in addition to ME/FM.

About 2 years ago, I had what turned out to be two different epileptic seizures. This was only confirmed because I also had a heart attack and was in the ER. Two different doctors witnessed the seizures and I went immediately into a coma for 2-l/2 days. I can remember slipping away, and my husband being with me. I awakened in an ICU Room and was promptly transferred. I wish you well. Yours, Lenora

I found this paper a while back but be aware the case is about someone with anxiety and not ME/CFS so those amounts may not be appropriate for someone with our disease. ???

Hi @Judee....I'll definitely read the above, but later as I'm way behind at the moment.

After having the longest insomnia period ever, I finally slept last night, but that leaves me way behind...so hopefully, you understand.

My doctor has finally become very co-operative, so that helps. Mind you, I never, ever abuse anything...I'm the total opposite of that person. Take good care....Yours, Lenora
