Pain Comes with Mucus Draining from Sinuses and Congestion in Lungs

I can always tell when I am going to be in a lot of pain the next day. The night before I start getting a lot of thick mucus draining in the back of my throat from my sinuses and some congestion (coughing up mucus) in my lungs. Does anyone else have this problem and do you know why?
