Conclusion: Collectively, our results demonstrated for the first time that CB2R plays a protective role in EAE through promoting autophagy and inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

Activating cannabinoid receptor 2 alleviates pathogenesis of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis via activation of autophagy and inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome

Hi @Violeta.....I suffer from autoimmune encephalitis, although to the best of my knowledge I've only had one severe "round" with it. It can take you to death's door, so it is quite serious.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that Cannabis plays a protective role in some of the symptoms? I live in Texas, so really don't even know if this would be available to me. It's a very sneaky illness....you aren't even aware that one problem after the other is affecting you. I'm wiser now, never want to encounter it again...but as you know, there are no guarantees. Thanks. Yours, Lenora

Cannabidiol, the oil, is an agonist of the CB2 receptor, so yes, I think that study means that cbd oil is a remedy for it. CBD oil is legal in all 50 states. so you could buy it online.

THC, the psycoactive part of cannabis, is an agonist of the CB1 receptor.

I have to look up the symptoms of autoimmune encephalomyelitis!

HI Violeta.....I have some cannabidiol oil here that a friend sent me. I only tried it three times, but would like to try it again. It was very kind of her.

Good luck with autoimmune encephalomyelitis. There is a book that I usually don't read but read before my odd encounter. It's called 'Brain on Fire' and is the true story of one of the first patient's who actually had this illness.
Not the best written book in the world but she's still fighting so many of her problems. Just a young girl, too.

Thanks to her, at least the doctor's had heard of it and I had to undergo two separate spinal taps as part of the Mayo Panel. I was confused, to say the least, but with treatment I'm left with some memory problems but am still holding my own. I was in a coma and near death before this was all figured out.

Very odd illness....before that I was diagnosed with two separate types of epilepsy (had seizures in front of the doctors in the ER) and a heart attack. So it was difficult to sort one problem from the other. Right now, I think I have 7 stents with more to come. I'm past worrying about any of it....I want to life the life I can. Yours, Lenora

Hello @Violeta.....I didn't mean to burden everyone with my problems. but was wondering if you knew if the oil could help with my insomniac situation? I'd even pour it on my head at this point! Drink it by the bottle. Well, just about anything. :) Yours Lenora

It's hard to say if or when the cbd will help with insomnia. I have insomnia, too, it's been much worse lately, and sometimes it helps and a lot of times it doesn't. There are several things that help me, but sometimes nothing helps. It's very frustrating, and for me, at least, being awake for long hours at night causes mental pain.

Sometimes alka seltzer helps, sometimes eating cheese and drinking a little bit of orange juice helps, sometimes when restless leg/whole body is the cause, Butcher's Broom + tyrosine helps, but sometimes nothing helps.

I guess the only way to find out is to try taking some before bed and maybe some again if you wake up in the middle of the night. One brand makes a gel cap that has melatonin in it, and that worked well for my husband when his insomnia was bad for a while.

Don't ever feel that sharing your problems is a burden. We are all here for each other.
