Hi,
niacin / niacinamide use methyl groups to convert to methyl-nicotinamide so you will need to find the right balance between B3 and methyl group donors, which can be very different for many of us.

There is an interesting discussions about this here:

and one I started some time ago:

with some interesting replies and resources.

cheers

I've been taking niacinamide every day (500 mg) to counter COMT +/+ with very positive results. It counters my anxiety and ADD. At least I can read long articles now :)
I don't know what the long term effect is on methylation.

For people with an MTHFR C677T defect and a tendency towards high homocysteine a serum Hcy test every 4-6 months could help check their status.

@Gary1001 - I think PeterPositive is right, it is a balancing act. I find that regular niacin (which makes me flush) helps me a lot with sleep. It stimulates GABA receptors, so I take it before bed and also in the middle of the night (along with a bunch of other stuff including l-theanine, Theanine Serene, Inositol/choine and glycine)

But niacin makes me tired during the day - I'm sure from interfering with methylation so I don't take it then. And this this seems to work okay for me. At least so far so good! :)
