Neurofeedback, which approaches are safer?

Hi all,
I am very new to Neurofeedback. Yesterday I tried my 1st session.
My problem is my ADD and I am hoping to correct or make some improvements to it using Neurofeedback.
As I am reading more about it, I am realizing there are several methods to doing Neurofeedback, some of which are effective with relatively low risk and others that some reported were harmful.
One of the approaches that I have read reviews about is the Othmer approach.
I have just emailed the provider I saw yesterday asking which approach is he using. But wanted to ask: which approaches are reported to have a relatively lower risk? Has anyone had a positive experience with Neurofeedback? If yes, do you know which method was used on you?
I figured I ask these questions before committing to a 10 session package deal and/or buying an expensive home unit down the line.
Thanks so much,
Peyt

Just received a response from the provider. They do use the Othmer approach.
I have since come across another method called Neuroptimal... Any thoughts as to which one has the lesser risk?
It sounds like (from what I have read so far ) the difference is one continues the same treatment whereas the other is more dynamic and changes as the person gets better . Any thoughts?

I would advise going to a biofeedback clinic that also does neurofeedback. It's expensive, but they would be able to evaluate your brainwaves and advise you on a good device for home.

Well the place I went to yesterday started out with what they call a QIK test which took 21 minutes and then a technician went over the results with me and answered all my questions and they also gave me 1 hour of Biofeedback therapy as a sample. The whole thing took over 3 hours...
I am more curious about different methods and protocols and how they are classified and which is good for what then the clinic.

here are some methods I have found so far:
  • Traditional neurofeedback
  • Z-score training
  • LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System)
  • Low frequency training
  • Loretta training
  • pEMF training
  • pRoshi
  • NeurOptimal training
  • CES (cranial electrotherapy stimulation and self-controlled energy neuro adaptive regulation (Scenar)
And I just spoke with another therapist who says her approach is based on BCIA. I am so confused.
Does anyone know which one of these methods would have the most research behind it as far as helping ADD and ADHD?
Thanks

Just an update,
So far I have tried 2 different methods(just 1 session each), first one was the Othmer method (which is low frequency training) and the 2nd one was HEG (Hemoencephalography) I felt slightly more focused and less impulsive after the Othmer session and as far as HEG one I had a headache during the session that vanished about 3-4 hours later but
I felt no improvement toward the actual ADD ....
Tomorow I am going to a new therapist who can do a TOVA test on me. Apparently, that's the standard test of the industry for A.D.D.
