The polio vaccine stuff (Sv40) was well covered in medical journals and newspapers for a while. When I became ill in the mid-80's I went back and looked for reports. There were plenty.

Guillain Barre Syndrome is also well known and talked about reletively often in the media, but mostly presented with the air of "acceptable damage".

The documentary film, The Origins of AIDS, examines the hypothesis that HIV "jumped" via vaccines. It can be seen here:

http://www.documentary-film.net/search/video-listings.php?e=5

Type of Video: Documentary
Genre: Informational
Length: 124 Minutes
Visit Website
Description: Since first being broadcast in 2003 the Origins Of Aids has yet to be aired on UK television. Despite winning many awards and being hotly debated the reason is more than likely connected to the barrage of legal assaults made on Channel 4 by Dr Koprowski, who it is theorized caused the Aids epidemic during 1950s trials of an experimental polio vaccine in Africa. Doc-Film-Net has also been threatened with legal action for showing this important film. As a result we are no longer able to make this film available ourselves. Yet we persist to inform others where this film is available and suggest these Full Screen and others link 1 and link 2 and link 3 and link 4. Please see the noticeboard for more info. This version is full 90 minutes.

HPV vaccine has caused same neuro-immune-endo issues

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I am really scared for my daughter. She had 2 shots of the Gardisil vaccine in 2008. Prior to her 3rd shot, she started to get a flu like illness at the end of 2008. She has been sick ever since and received a dx with cfs in Dec 2009. There is a whole website of mothers trying to get Gardasil banned. VAERS has 61 deaths noted and over 1700 reactions. A group met with the FDA a week ago to report all the issues. I want to e-mail Dr. Judy to see if she can find a connection. The girls have experienced seizures and many of the deaths have been classified as cardio problems or unknown.

My daughter had terrible headaches that began after a few months. A MRI showed an angioma in her left temporal lobe which had bled. There was a Journal of Child Neurology article on line @http://jcn.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/25/3/321 entitled "A 16 yr old girl with bilateral visual loss and left hemiparesis following an immunization against human papilloma virus." I am scared that my daughter will also have neuro losses. I read that the Whittemore daughter has seizures too.

My daughter also has constant sore throats, fatigue, dizziness and heart palpitations. Some of the other Gardasil girls have also received a dx of CFS and others indicate that they do not know what is wrong. Check out "truthaboutgardasil.org" (sorry I am not sure how to link).

Any input from the this well-informed group is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Scared Mom

Scared Mom,

I'm sure you will get a lot of support and information here. We are all postulating here and making connections which may or may not hold up. There are others - not me - who are very science savvy and who can comment on the science in a more intelligent way than I can.

You may want to consider contacting WPI and let them know about this issue. They have made XMRV testing available to some people who will further the research. They may be wiling to facilitate this for you if they think there is reason for concern.

I would just like to say that, no matter the precipitating event, those who rest adequately (adequately for ME/CFS being extravagantly and beyond what one would wish) early in the illness (none are really sure exactly what "early" is) have the best rate of recovery and remission. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to get a teenage girl to rest to the extent that one must in order to, perhaps, take advantage of this window. Nor can I imagine how difficult it would be to explain this to school and, perhaps, even doc.s. Nevertheless, "complete rest", as they used to say in the old days when rest was understood as helpful to healing, has allowed many people to "recover".

Stay with us. We are very interested in your story and share a lot of your concerns.

peace out,
Koan

PS I wonder if it would be a good idea for you to start a thread about vaccines or, even, Gardisil in particular.

Rotavirus vaccine contaminated with pig virus

Rotarix rotavirus vaccine contaminated, officials say
By Tom Watkins, CNN
March 22, 2010 4:22 p.m. EDT

About 1 million children in the United States and about 30 million worldwide have gotten Rotarix vaccine, the FDA says.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Doctors have been advised to suspend use of Rotarix rotavirus vaccine
Another vaccine, RotaTeq, is still OK to use, officials say
GlaxoSmithKline, maker of Rotarix, says the contamination is not harmful

(CNN) -- Federal health authorities recommended Monday that doctors suspend using Rotarix, one of two vaccines licensed in the United States against rotavirus, saying the vaccine is contaminated with material from a pig virus.
"There is no evidence at this time that this material poses a safety risk," Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg told reporters in a conference call.
Rotarix, made by GlaxoSmithKline, was approved by the FDA in 2008. The contaminant material is DNA from porcine circovirus 1, a virus from pigs that is not known to cause disease in humans or animals, Hamburg said.
About 1 million children in the United States and about 30 million worldwide have gotten Rotarix vaccine, she said.
Rotavirus disease kills more than 500,000 infants around the world each year, primarily in low- and middle-income countries, she said. Before rotavirus vaccine became available, the disease was blamed for more than 50,000 hospitalizations and several dozen deaths per year in the United States, she said.
The FDA learned about the contamination after an academic research team using a novel technique to look for viruses in a range of vaccines found the material in GlaxoSmithKline's product and told the company, Hamburg said. The drug maker confirmed its presence in both the cell bank and the seed from which the vaccine is derived, suggesting its presence from the early stages of vaccine development, she said. The FDA then confirmed the drug maker's findings.
GlaxoSmithKline emphasized Monday that the pig virus is not known to cause illness in humans, saying "it is found in everyday meat products and is frequently eaten with no resulting disease or illness."
"No safety issue has been identified by external agencies or GSK," Thomas Breuer, the drug maker's chief medical officer, said in a written statement. "GSK is committed to patient safety and to the highest manufacturing standards for all our vaccines and medicines. We are already working closely and discussing this finding with regulatory agencies around the world."
Another vaccine, RotaTeq, is made by Merck and was approved in 2006. There is no evidence that the Merck product is affected, Hamburg said. Both vaccines are given by mouth to infants to prevent rotavirus disease, which is marked by severe diarrhea and dehydration.
Asked whether Merck would be able to meet the nation's demand, Merck spokeswoman Pam Eisele said, "Obviously, we will work with the ... FDA to evaluate supply needs."
In the next four to six weeks, the drug agency will convene an advisory committee to make recommendations and seek input on the use of new techniques for identifying viruses in vaccine, Hamburg said.
"We're not pulling it from the market, we're just suspending its use during this period while we're collecting more information," she said. "It should not be in this vaccine product and we want to understand how it got there. It's not an easy call and we spent many long hours debating the pros and cons but, because we have an alternative product and because the background rates of this disease are not so severe in this country, we felt that the judicious thing to do was to take a pause, to really ask the critical questions about what this material was doing in the vaccine, how it got there."
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said "a substantial amount" of the DNA was found in the vaccine. But, he stressed, "there is no evidence that it causes any disease. ... There is no evidence that it ever does anything."
The research group that discovered the contamination has asked not to be identified pending its paper's publication in a scientific journal, Hamburg said.
Anyone who has already received a dose of Rotarix should switch to the Merck product for the next two doses, Hamburg said. Preliminary testing of the Merck product has found no evidence of the porcine circovirus 1 DNA, she said. Doctors should be able to tell parents which of the two products their children received, she said.
Hamburg stressed that the suspension applies only to the United States. Public health officials in countries where the incidence of rotavirus is more severe may decide that the benefits of continuing to use the vaccine outweigh any concerns raised by the contamination, she said. "Such a decision would be very understandable," she added.
A similar virus, porcine circovirus 2, also does not cause disease in humans, but it does cause disease in its pig host, Hamburg said.

I am so sorry you are going through this with your daughter. Every time mine (teen) sees the primary doc, the issue of the gardisil vaccine is brought up, and I keep putting it off... But of course, no one wants their kid to end up with cervical cancer when she could have had a vaccine to prevent it; I end up feeling like I am an overreacting, unreasonable parent. However, your child's situation makes me want to put it off until more is known about its safety... I hope your daughter is able to rest and recuperate, and I will keep her in my thoughts. Please take care and keep posting. J.

Deep sequencing reveals viral vaccine contaminants

The sequence analysis revealed the expected vaccine strains in each preparation, and in three cases, other unexpected viral sequences. The retrovirus avian leukosis virus was found in the measles vaccine, but at a very low level (700 nucleotides from 4 sequence reads). A virus similar to simian retrovirus was identified in Rotateq (276 nucleotides from 1 sequence read). Significant levels of porcine cirovirus 1 were found in Rotarix. The entire viral genome sequence was deduced from 6344 sequence reads, comprising over 40% of the reads done for that vaccine.

The avian leukosis virus sequences found in the measles vaccine are in intact virions, as DNA treatment of the vaccines did not prevent their detection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). However simian retrovirus DNA was not detected by PCR after DNAse treatment of Rotateq. Therefore the viral DNA detected in Rotateq vaccine most likely originates from host DNA present in the vaccine preparation. The cells used to produce Rotateq are Vero cells African green monkey kidney cells. A defective form of simian retrovirus DNA, called proviral DNA, is integrated into Vero cell DNA....

"Thus, contamination of human vaccines with XMRV would not pass undetected with the currently available technology, although this may not be necessarily true for vaccines produced in previous decades".

Supposedly it's not true with current technology either.....otherwise, what's the hold up with assessment of the national blood supply.

This is the same information we came across back in October when we were trying to determine if DeFreitas's retrovirus CAV was the same as XMRV.

I suspect that I got CFS from a vaccine as a kid but then EBV triggered it when I was 20.

This is precisely what happened to me, imho. I got an "experimental" vaccine when I was 12, and after began to show immunological abnormalities. I started getting sick with unusual illnesses, or usual ones but much worse. I still considered myself healthy. In 1983, I suddenly began to have polyuria, and was later confirmed in a diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis (my bladder walls have been photographed and are pitted with ulcers and "weep with blood," as the doctor put it). In 1984, almost exactly one year later, I got Mono (Glandular Fever) and never recovered.

Just wow.

I'm sorry, but these damn idiots. They didn't know enough about using cells from other creatures, especially mammals, and they sure didn't know enough about retroviruses to claim there could be no transmission. I'm dimly remembering something about polio vaccines that were based on monkeys, and later particles showed up in cancerous tumors. If I didn't have such a horrible crash going on, with such brainfog, I'd find a reference for this.

it could even be that the vaccine reactivates a certain virus which might already be in the person "sleeping" in the DNA

Exactly what I believe happened in my situation.....My "trigger" was Hep B Vaccine; I did not have an acute infectous onset. The way I see it, one of two things happened: Either the vaccine was contaminated, or the vaccine was somehow involved in activating latent infection that had been asleep in me for many years. The fact that I was very healthy 25+ years prior to onset of illness, and did not have an infectious onset ME/CFS, causes me to lean towards the latter possibility. Also, my peers did not become ill after vaccination from the same batch but then maybe they didn't have the right set of latent infections and other variables that I had. One could argue for both, but I lean towards the latter possibility.

I've been on this Vaccine link issue for some time. The topic tends to get shut down or just ignored ...but I feel more comfortable with it here amidst the open and discerning discussion.

Does this mean that mouse tissue has been/is used to culture various types of vaccine?

Is it feasible that someone who received an infected vaccination in, say, the 1920s could have contracted XMRV (or any other retrovirus present in the tissue used to culture the vaccine) and passed that on through the germ line to the present day?

And does anyone think their symptoms may have started after a bacillus Calmette-Gurin (BCG) vaccination (against TB)?

I've been listening to “TWiV 77: Non-nuclear proliferation” podcast on http://www.virology.ws/ - it is scary to hear how insecure these guys are when it comes to vaccine contamination and to cell line contamination in general. They are restrained in comments, and defend safety of contaminated vaccines (one of them does, with very shallow arguments) but pay attention to the tone of voices ...

They even said ‘what if there are viruses present in cell lines we are using every day, that we don’t know about, that mess up our experiments without us knowing that’.

Vincent did say that “"Circovirus DNA is a new way of looking into vaccines".

I'd add that this could be a whole new way of looking into cell-based lab science in general

Endogenous retroviruses as potential hazards for vaccines.

Retroviruses are classified as exogenous or endogenous according to their mode of transmission. Generally, endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are not pathogenic in their original hosts; however, some ERVs induce diseases. In humans, a novel gammaretrovirus was discovered in patients with prostate cancer or chronic fatigue syndrome. This virus was closely related to xenotropic murine leukemia virus (X-MLV) and designated as xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV). The origin and transmission route of XMRV are still unknown at present; however, XMRV may be derived from ERVs of rodents because X-MLVs are ERVs of inbred and wild mice. Many live attenuated vaccines for animals are manufactured by using cell lines from animals, which are known to produce infectious ERVs; however, the risks of infection by ERVs from xenospecies through vaccination have been ignored. This brief review gives an overview of ERVs in cats, the potential risks of ERV infection by vaccination, the biological characteristics of RD-114 virus (a feline ERV), which possibly contaminates vaccines for companion animals, and the methods for detection of infectious RD-114 virus. Came across this while looking at the Gates Foundation website:

http://www.gatesfoundation.org/global-health/Pages/grand-challenges-explorations.aspx

Building on a recent discovery that ancient retroviruses long dormant in human cells are activated by HIV infection, Jonah Sacha of the University of Wisconsin in the U.S. is researching whether a vaccine could be developed to target these retrovirus proteins and destroy HIV infected cells.

Makes you think about XMRV....

endogenous retroviruses are ervs or if in humans hervs.\hervs have thus far not been shown to induce disease in humans.Endogenous retroviruses cannot be transmitted horizontally.Xmrv was not derived from ervs of rodents.ervs are fragments of ancient retroviruses which have no replicative capacity and cannot infect humans.ervs are not infectious.xmrv was creared when a erv protein was incorporated into its coat changing its receptor specificity-a process called zoonosis. This is how retros jump species.some mulvs are enogenous some exogenous.elsevier is notorious for its peer review process.this appears to be a good example.the definitions of endogenous and ervs are incorrect.

ervs are part of our intrisic immune system they are activated in response to any viral infection. They are specific for retroviruses where their proteins play a part in delaying the formation of viriond by interfering with coats opening or closing.
